Gabrielle Henry has returned to the pageant stage for a significant full-circle moment. Months after the Miss Universe Jamaica 2025 titleholder suffered a serious fall during the Miss Universe competition in Thailand, Dr. Gabrielle Henry appeared at the Miss Universe Jamaica 2026 Grand Coronation on Sunday, August 23, to crown her successor, Celene Hall.
The ceremony at the AC Hotel Kingston marked Henry’s return to the Miss Universe Jamaica stage following a lengthy recovery from injuries sustained in November 2025.
Hall, a 25-year-old businesswoman, artist and philanthropist representing Portland, emerged from a field of 33 contestants to become Miss Universe Jamaica 2026.
For Henry, however, the evening represented much more than the traditional passing of a crown.

Henry’s appearance was especially significant because she had spent much of the previous months recovering and largely away from official Miss Universe Jamaica duties. Ahead of the coronation, Mark McDermoth, president of the company managing the Miss Universe Jamaica organization, celebrated the news that Henry was well enough to participate.
“We are happy that after the incident in Thailand, Dr Henry is able to appear on her home stage to crown her successor,” McDermoth told The Gleaner. On coronation night, Henry fulfilled that role, placing the Miss Universe Jamaica crown on Hall.
The moment brought Henry’s reign to a close nearly nine months after an accident dramatically altered what should have been one of the biggest experiences of her pageant career.
What Happened to Gabrielle Henry at Miss Universe 2025?
Henry traveled to Thailand to represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe 2025 competition after winning her national title in August 2025.
During the preliminary competition in Bangkok on November 19, Henry fell through an opening in the stage while performing her walk. The Miss Universe Organization and Henry’s family later confirmed that the accident was far more serious than some of the initial reports suggested.
© Miss UniverseAccording to their December 2025 joint statement, Henry suffered an intracranial hemorrhage with loss of consciousness, a fracture, facial lacerations and other significant injuries. She was admitted to intensive care and placed under neurological monitoring.
The organization also pushed back against suggestions that Henry was responsible for the incident, stating that reports claiming she contributed to the accident were “entirely inaccurate.”
Her medical care continued after she returned to Jamaica.
© Miss UniverseBy March 2026, Miss Universe Jamaica organizers confirmed that Henry had been released from the hospital but was still recuperating under the supervision of her medical team. At that stage, she had not resumed active pageant duties or scheduled official appearances.
Gabrielle Henry Shared a Powerful Update During Recovery
Henry eventually began giving supporters glimpses into her recovery.
In February, she shared hospital photos and footage of herself exercising on a stationary bike while reflecting on the physical and emotional impact of the accident. “This season has redefined restoration and renewal for me,” Henry wrote in the update.
She also explained that her recovery had changed how she viewed the experience, describing her decision to keep moving forward even while her healing remained ongoing.

She appeared onstage seated and spoke about the importance of supporting children’s literacy and being surrounded by friends, family and fellow Jamaicans.
Who Is New Miss Universe Jamaica Celene Hall?
The woman receiving the crown from Henry is Celene Hall, a businesswoman, artist and philanthropist from Portland.
Hall has worked in the shipping and logistics industry for approximately five years, developing experience in business, leadership, and service. Her pageant performance also earned her several awards, including Best in Swimwear, Best in Evening Gown, the Essence of Style Award, Altruism Award and Most Aware Award.
Her victory also carries some history. Hall said she is the first woman from Portland to capture the Miss Universe Jamaica crown. “You know, when I won Miss Universe Jamaica Portland, the word that I used to describe it was surreal,” Hall told The Gleaner.
Dr. Tianna McDaniel finished as first runner-up, while Kadejah Anderson was named second runner-up.
Hall will now prepare to represent Jamaica internationally at Miss Universe.
