Miss World Uganda, Trivia Elle Muhoza, brought the anatomy of childbirth to the Miss World stage. During the competition in Vietnam, Muhoza stepped out in a custom couture gown titled “The Layers of Life,” created by Ugandan designer Keesha Abdallah.
Instead of drawing inspiration from flowers, architecture or traditional red-carpet glamour, Abdallah looked to the seven anatomical layers associated with a Cesarean section. The result was a dramatic, layered gown designed as a tribute to childbirth, motherhood and the physical journey women experience when bringing a baby into the world.
Muhoza wore the look as part of the World Designer Award festivities surrounding Miss World 2026 in Vietnam. According to Miss World, Muhoza is an Ugandan entrepreneur with a diploma in aviation who runs her own cosmetics business and hopes to use her platform for philanthropy, including supporting vulnerable children and raising awareness about gender-based violence.
Why Miss World Uganda’s Gown Was Inspired by a C-Section
For Abdallah, the idea was personal. The designer is a new mother, and while developing the Miss World Uganda gown, she began exploring different ways to translate childbirth into fashion.
“I had this crazy idea to turn the layers of childbirth into a couture gown,” Abdallah explained while discussing the creation of the dress.
She said the opportunity to design for Miss Uganda on the Miss World stage made her want to produce something “fresh, original and highly inspired.”
Rather than approaching childbirth only through familiar imagery associated with pregnancy and babies, Abdallah became fascinated by what physically happens inside the body. She studied images connected to C-sections and found herself especially interested in the layers encountered during the procedure.
“With all the pictures, I connected with this one the most because of the colors, the layers, the art, and how deep the whole C-section process is,” she said. That medical imagery became the starting point for “The Layers of Life.”
What Are the 7 Layers Represented in the C-Section Gown?
The gown uses color, texture and layered construction to interpret the tissues and structures encountered during a Cesarean birth. The seven are commonly described as skin, subcutaneous fat, fascia, abdominal muscle, peritoneum, uterus and the amniotic sac.
A C-section is major abdominal surgery. Surgical techniques and individual circumstances can differ. Obstetricians interviewed by The Indian Express described the seven-layer concept as a simplified way of helping people visualize the tissues and structures involved.
Inside the Meaning of the ‘Layers of Life’ Gown
The finished gown features a dramatic progression of colors and textures, transforming an experience normally associated with an operating room into couture.
Reporting on the design describes the dress as being crafted from stretch satin and layered tulle, with a fitted one-shoulder silhouette and flowing fabric. Its color palette moves through peach, gold, coral, red, maroon and burgundy, while pearls, glass beads and crystal embellishments add detail.
© Muhoza Trivia ElleFor Abdallah, however, those colors were not intended to symbolize different races or skin tones. “When we began creating this gown, race or skin colour was never part of the conversation,” the designer explained. “Our starting point was simply a woman and the incredible layers of the body she carries within her.”
She further explained that the concept was about the physical process of a C-section and the much larger experience surrounding birth. “Each colour and layer was chosen to represent a stage, a texture, or a transition within that story,” Abdallah said.
The Gown Celebrates the ‘Extraordinary Journey’ of Childbirth
Although a C-section supplied the visual and anatomical inspiration, Abdallah’s message extends beyond one method of delivery. She described the concept as being inspired by the layers encountered during a C-section and, more broadly, the “extraordinary journey of bringing life into the world.”
The designer also made clear that she wanted the final creation to communicate something universal. “Life has no colour. Life is universal,” Abdallah said.

Trivia Elle Muhoza was crowned Miss Uganda in 2025 and is representing Uganda at Miss World 2026.
