Neil Patrick Harris has given fans a rare and heartwarming glimpse into his family life, and it’s his teenage daughter who has stolen the spotlight.
The How I Met Your Mother star took to Instagram to share a vibrant collection of photos from a spring break trip to Thailand with husband David Burtka and their twins, Harper Grace and Gideon. But it was Harper, now firmly in her teenage years, who had followers doing a double take as they marvelled at how grown up she looks.
Posing alongside her dads and brother in a series of snapshots from Bangkok, Harper appeared effortlessly poised, her style and confidence reflecting just how quickly time has passed since fans first met the twins as toddlers.
“Thailand Spring Break, Pt. 1: Bangkok,” Neil captioned the post, before detailing a whirlwind itinerary packed with unforgettable moments. “Our first time in Thailand, too many singular experiences to name them all.”
Among the highlights were cultural landmarks, including a family visit to Wat Phra Kaew, one of Thailand’s most sacred temples, where the group posed respectfully in the ornate golden doorway. Another must-see was Wat Pho, home to the iconic Reclining Buddha, adding a sense of awe and history to their adventure.
The trip wasn’t all sightseeing. The family also embraced Bangkok’s buzzing food scene, indulging in Michelin-starred street food at the legendary Jay Fai, where, as Neil proudly noted, the 81-year-old chef still cooks every dish herself.
There were lighter, more playful moments too, including a glamorous night out at a Bangkok skybar, where the family soaked in sweeping city views, and a lively date night for Neil and David at a drag show at House of Heals. “Werk,” he joked, tagging performer Barry Cloudy.
Neil also revealed a more unexpected stop on the itinerary, a skincare treatment. “Lasering my face,” he quipped, referencing a visit to a local clinic, showing that even on holiday, a little self-care was on the agenda.
Throughout it all, the family dynamic remained front and centre. Whether exploring bustling Chinatown with their guide Nui or relaxing at their luxury hotel, The Siam Bangkok, the photos captured a close-knit unit making the most of every moment together.
But it was the evening shot of the four standing against a glittering Bangkok skyline that truly resonated. Harper, dressed in a chic mini dress, stood confidently beside her family, a far cry from the little girl fans remember, and a poignant reminder of how quickly childhood slips by.
Neil and David, who have always been open about their love of parenting, have long shared glimpses of their family life. Yet this latest post feels particularly special, a snapshot not just of a holiday, but of a moment in time, as their children step into a new phase of life.
Neil and David are unbelievably proud of their children, and they never shy away from singing their praises. On their 14th birthday last year, the HIMYM star posted a gushing tribute, writing: “Harper and Gideon turn 14 today. I have never been more proud of anything in my entire life, and I suspect I never will.
“My husband David and I marvel at their maturity, are wowed by their warmth, chuffed by their charm. We love them both unconditionally, and their hugs fill us with life. We don’t say any of this to them, obvs, or they’d recoil or leverage it to their advantage. But they’re not on Insta, so I’m free to speak honestly. They’ll never find out. Happy Birthday, Harper and Gideon. You’re both amazeballs.”
The family lives in an incredible East Hampton estate, which they purchased for $5.5 million in 2017. It boasts four bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, a mudroom, a library, a wine cellar, a rooftop hot tub, a tennis court, a pool, a pool house, and 13.5 acres of land. Before relocating to East Hampton, Neil and David lived in Harlem for almost a decade after buying a stunning 8,000-square-foot townhouse for $3.6 million in 2013, a year before they married.
