Savannah Guthrie is back on Today, but the mystery surrounding her mother Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is only getting more unsettling.
According to TMZ, new notes tied to the case have surfaced – both from the same anonymous person who has been contacting authorities for weeks, claiming they know who is responsible. This time, though, the message takes a darker and more specific turn.
In one note sent Monday morning, the sender doubled down on their demand, saying they would reveal the kidnappers for “1 bitcoin” and could “deliver them on a silver platter.”
But it was the second message that raised even more questions. “I Saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora, Mexico,” the person wrote. Despite that claim, the same source had some trouble claims, stating in the first note that “she is dead.”
As noted by the outlet, Sonora, which borders roughly 70 miles from Tucson, Arizona, where Nancy was abducted on February 1.
The mixed messaging hasn’t convinced investigators. The FBI reportedly remains skeptical, especially since a deposit has not been made to the bitcoin account tied to the messages, per TMZ..
The sender, however, pushed back on that doubt, writing, “It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of February for a bitcoin, but I am disregarded as a scam.” “They are free, and the case is frozen, but the egos remain hot when it comes to me. Arrogance at its finest,” they continued.
They also claimed they’ve been out of the U.S. for over five years and had nothing to do with the “horrific crime,” adding in a follow-up message, “I just want what’s fair and to live peacefully with enough to start my life again quietly with out having to join a witness protection program.”
Her return to Today
Amid all of this, Savannah made her official return to Today on April 6, marking her first time back at the anchor desk in over two months.
Sitting beside Craig Melvin, Guthrie kept it simple but emotional. “Good morning… It’s good to be home,” she said on air. Melvin responded, “Yes, it’s good to have you back at home,” before she added, “Well, here we go, ready or not. Let’s do the news.”
Later in the broadcast, joined by Al Roker and Carson Daly, Guthrie acknowledged the support she’s received from viewers. “I’ve been really feeling the love so much,” she said, reacting to signs from the crowd outside.
Her return comes after weeks spent in Arizona with family following her mother’s disappearance. In a recent interview, Guthrie opened up about the emotional weight of coming back to the show. “I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” she said. “But I can’t come back because it’s my family… my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer.”
For now, Guthrie is stepping back into the spotlight, but the search for answers in her mother’s case is far from over.
