Netflix isn’t done with ‘Wednesday.’ Long before Season 2 is released on the platform on August 6, Netflix has officially renewed the Jenna Ortega-led hit for a third season. And that’s not all, a spinoff centered on Uncle Fester is also in early development, giving fans a deeper dive into the unique universe of the Addams Family.

“We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday,” says co-creator Alfred Gough to TUDUM. Since its debut in 2022, Wednesday has become one of Netflix’s biggest hits, breaking viewership records with over 250 million streams and earning four Emmy wins along the way.

The show catapulted Jenna into stardom and turned her version of Wednesday Addams into a pop culture icon. “Television has — and always will be — a team sport,” Gough noted. “[Co-creator and co-showrunner] Miles [Millar] and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners.”

As for what Season 3 has in store, the team is keeping details under wraps. “Sure,” co-showrunner Miles Millar teased when asked about the storyline, “but then I’d have to bury you in a shallow grave.”

Season 2, which premieres in two parts (Aug. 6 and Sept. 3), promises to go even darker and weirder than before. With a new threat at Nevermore Academy and Wednesday racing to save Enid’s life, the stakes are higher, and the humor, reportedly, sharper.

The new season will also dig deeper into the Addams family lore

“We think Season 2 is funnier as well!” says Gough. The new season will also dig deeper into the Addams family lore. Returning cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and they all have expanded roles.

Netflix and MGM Television are developing a ‘Wednesday’ spinoff focusing on his character, although details are still not revealed. “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough said in an interview with THR.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2, which premieres in two parts (Aug. 6 and Sept. 3), promises to go even darker and weirder than before.

Netflix executive Bela Bajaria added, “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.” “It’s been a dark delight to watch Wednesday cast her spell over audiences across the globe — one deadpan quip at a time,” Gough and Millar said in a joint statement. “We’re beyond thrilled she’ll be returning to stalk the halls of Nevermore in Season 3. This time, she’ll unearth more of the school’s sinister secrets — and descend even deeper into the Addams family crypt. Or, as Wednesday would say: ‘Nothing brings a family together like a good exhumation.’”
