Nick Jonas is revisiting some of the most frightening experiences of his life. In an appearance on a podcast, Jonas discussed the birth of his daughter Malti, whom he and his wife Priyanka Chopra welcomed in 2022.
Jonas was featured on the “Jay Shetty Podcast” this week, addressing a moment he’s never discussed before with the media. “She came to the world under sort of very intense circumstances, which I’ve not really talked about ever,” said Jonas.
He revealed that Malti was born three months premature, resulting in a complicated birth.
“But we were expecting her to arrive in April of the year she was born and we get a call that it’s gonna be sooner. So, we basically went into action, and she was born via surrogate,” he continued. “She came out, she was one pound, 11 ounces, and purple basically.”
“These angels at the NICU kind of resuscitated her in that moment.”
© WWDJonas revealed that the memory remains very intense and affecting for him. “I could still sort of like, smell it, you know, there’s always visceral things. It was both comforting and frightening to be there every day and to see sort of other families going through similar situations. But she fought every day for three and a half months and slowly started to gain some weight,” he continued.
After three months and numerous blood transfusions, Jonas and Chopra were able to take their daughter home. She’s now four years old.
Jonas shares that he believes his daughter has an understanding of how she came into the world, with it affecting her behavior and interactions with the world.
“And I feel like she knows. How she entered the world and what that first chapter of her life was like,” he said. “And so every day is a gift and you can actually feel it in her in the way that she behaves and how exciting everything is.”

In the conversation, Jonas shared some of the details of Malti’s adorable personality.
“Our daughter’s incredible, she’s just, she’s magic in every sense of the world,” he said. “She just turned four a couple weeks ago. It blows my mind, I look at her and I can see her future. I just know she’s going to do amazing things, and I’m awestruck that I get to experience her magic. She’s just perfect in every way.”
