Kidman recalled filming romantic scenes with Skarsgård and realizing something was getting in the way of the chemistry. The culprit was a falafel sandwich he had eaten earlier. She remembered immediately calling it out.

According to Kidman, she told him there was no way she could convincingly film a kiss scene while battling the lingering smell of falafel. As she joked during the podcast, she needed him to put the sandwich away because bad breath was not helping the mood.

Kidman revealed she became pretty direct about it. She told Skarsgård that falafel was officially off limits before kissing scenes. No falafel before a kiss. No falafel before love scenes. Simple rule. “’I’m meant to be into you and kissing you — put away the falafel now because the bad breath does not turn me on,’” Kidman recalled.

Kidman joked that after that conversation, Skarsgård likely avoided falafel completely before filming together again. “I’m sure [Skarsgård] did not eat a falafel ever again. I said, ‘No more falafel. Not before you kiss, not before you make love,” she said.

The moment was clearly delivered with humor, but it highlights a practical side of filmmaking that audiences rarely consider. Actors often film emotional or romantic scenes after long hours on set, and small details like personal hygiene suddenly become very noticeable.

She explained that someone could be extremely good-looking, but if their breath is unpleasant, the connection disappears immediately. Her sense of smell is especially strong, which makes the issue even more noticeable. “I don’t think so, honey, if you have bad breath,” she said.
