Nina Dobrev went viral at the Venice International Film Festival for all the wrong reasons after an “embarrassing” exchange with security.
The Vampire Diaries star, 37, was seemingly “kicked off” the red carpet while trying to pose for photos in her stunning Armani Privé strapless sequin gown at the premiere of Ink on Wednesday, September 2.
Nina stood in front of the waiting photographers who were calling her name before she was interrupted by an unnamed man in a dark suit.
He came up to her side and raised his arm, seemingly gesturing for her to leave the carpet while muttering something to Nina, who looked confused and unimpressed by the exchange.
A woman off camera appeared to intervene, allowing Nina a few seconds to pose for photos before another man in a suit ushered her off the carpet.

The humiliating exchange was, of course, caught on camera, and the clip quickly picked up steam on social media, with many users shocked by the moment.
“Is this guy crazy? Poor Nina,” one person wrote on X. A second said: “Why the [expletive] did they send Nina Dobrev away like that from the Venice red carpet?”

Another said: “Did she stay too long, or was it their lack of organisation? Either way, it was embarrassing.”
© TikTokOne person defended security’s actions, explaining: “She wasn’t kicked out; she just didn’t have much time to pose for the photos, so the security guy asked her to keep walking and she made that face like she didn’t understand.”
Heated exchanges with security
Nina isn’t the first celebrity to have a run-in with security at a major event. At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Kelly Rowland had a heated exchange with a security guard during the premiere of Marcello Mio.
The Destiny’s Child star looked furious in photos captured on the red carpet, pointing her finger in the woman’s face as she attempted to guide Kelly up the stairs into the venue.

Breaking her silence at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Cannes Gala two days after the incident, Kelly expressed her satisfaction at standing her ground.
“That woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” Kelly shared with AP News. “I have a boundary and I stand by those boundaries.”
© WireImageKelly explained that she felt singled out and treated unfairly compared to other attendees. “There were other women on that carpet who did not quite look like me and they didn’t get scolded, or pushed off, or told to get off,” she continued.
“I stood my ground and she felt like she had to stand hers. But I stood my ground.”
