Miranda Kerr rarely speaks in depth about her marriage to Orlando Bloom, but in a candid appearance on the We Need to Talk podcast, the model, 42, reflected on their past, co-parenting their 15-year-old son, Flynn, and the surprising friendship that has blossomed since their split in 2013.
“From day one, Orlando and I had done a lot of spiritual work, and forgiveness was a big part of that, forgiving each other, forgiving ourselves, creating peace within the situation,” Kerr explained. “And we both knew that the relationship was not bringing out the best in each other.”
Their marriage lasted three years, but Kerr emphasizes that prioritizing Flynn’s well-being was always their top concern. “When we made that decision to separate, I said to him, ‘Let’s always put the needs of Flynn first. Like, let’s not make it about us. Let’s make it about what’s in the best interest for Flynn. But at the same time, let’s make sure that we completely forgive each other, make peace with each other, because otherwise it really weighs on you.’”
Kerr credits this approach for the harmony they now share. “When you have a child with someone else, they’re always going to be that person’s parent for the rest of their life, and there are going to be situations when you’re going to need to talk if you like it or not. So why not make it harmonious? Why not make it more peaceful?”

Despite the end of their romantic relationship, Kerr and Bloom maintain a warm and supportive friendship. She shared a recent text exchange from his birthday as proof.
“Orlando and I are great friends,” she said. “I just wished him a happy birthday and he told me, thank you to me for being such a wonderful mother to Flynn and a great friend to him, and how grateful he is to have me in his life. And I feel the same.”

There’s such a base level of friendship and respect there that we both have for each other. I wish him only all the best for this coming year.”

CEO Evan Spiegel, with helping her establish limits after her divorce from Bloom. “He actually helped me have a little more boundaries with Orlando, to be honest. My husband has good boundaries,” she said, explaining that she had previously been overly accommodating in the early days of co-parenting.
Their blended family:
Kerr married Spiegel in 2017, and together they share three children, son Hart (born May 2018), son Myles (October 2019), and son Pierre (February 2024). Yet she continues to maintain a positive relationship with Bloom and his family, even showing support during his split from Katy Perry in 2025.
“We’re one big, happy family,” Kerr said. “Katy is amazing, I love her. And Orlando obviously.” Reflecting on their blended circle, Kerr emphasized that avoiding animosity is crucial. “If you do have animosity, it only hurts yourself.”
© WWDKerr’s friendship with Perry grew just as naturally before their split. The two bonded immediately when they met at Bloom’s Malibu home. “She was very playful with Flynn. She was not trying to be his mum. She was just being friendly and fun, and that’s all you can ask for,” Kerr recalled.
Their connection extended to holidays, milestone celebrations, and even supporting Kerr’s KORA Organics business. Perry once joked, “In our modern family, she’s probably the most health-conscious of everyone,” highlighting the ease and camaraderie between them at the time.
