Pedro Pascal is back in Mexico; this time for work. Weeks after being spotted enjoying himself in Mexico City, the actor has returned to the country to film his upcoming movie, “De Noche,” a much-anticipated project directed by Todd Haynes.
According to local reports, the 50-year-old star was spotted in the northern state of Sonora, where production is underway. More specifically, Pascal is filming near the mining town of Cananea, in the southeastern area of the municipality, at a ranch known as La Chuera, located just a few miles outside the city.
The film also stars Danny Ramírez, with the two actors having already been spotted working together on set. Videos circulating on social media show Pascal dressed in period costume, wearing outfits inspired by the 1930s, including a classic hat and sunglasses.
“De Noche” is a drama set in the 1930s, following the romantic relationship between a detective, played by Pascal, and a professor, played by Ramírez, whose lives are disrupted as they fall in love. As political tensions rise in the years leading up to World War II, the couple is forced to flee from Los Angeles to Mexico, becoming the targets of local political forces and persecution.
Pascal was not originally attached to the role. The character was initially set to be played by Joaquin Phoenix, who stepped away from the project last minute, leaving production scrambling to rescue the project.
Filming has also taken place near notable landmarks in the region, including the historic Casa Greene, a 19th-century mansion built by William Cornell Greene, the founder of the Cananea Consolidated Copper Company. The production has drawn local attention, with residents and passersby sharing glimpses of the shoot across social media.
Beyond the set, Pascal has also been seen exploring the area. On March 12, he was photographed at a local restaurant, where he greeted fans with a smile after being recognized.
The return of a familiar look
Pascal’s appearance has also caught fans’ attention. At this year’s Academy Awards, Pascal surprised many by appearing with a clean-shaven look, a marked departure from the facial hair that he’s often associated with.
During his time in Sonora, Pascal appears to have returned to his signature style, once again sporting a salt-and-pepper beard and mustache, a move that was celebrated by his fans.
