Martha Stewart, born August 3, 1941, is a businesswoman, television personality, bestselling author and lifestyle icon who built one of the world’s most recognizable home and entertaining brands. From cooking and gardening to decorating and entertaining, Stewart has influenced generations through her books, magazines and television shows.

The New Jersey native began her career as a stockbroker before launching a successful catering business in the 1970s. After catering an event for a New York book publisher, she landed her first cookbook, Entertaining, in 1982. She went on to publish dozens of bestselling books, found Martha Stewart Living magazine in 1990 and become a household name through Emmy Award-winning television series, including Martha Stewart Living and The Martha Stewart Show.

In 2004, Stewart was convicted on charges related to an insider trading investigation and served five months in federal prison. Rather than ending her career, the setback marked the beginning of a remarkable comeback. She returned to television, expanded her business empire, became an unlikely pop culture favorite through her longtime friendship with Snoop Dogg, appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit at age 81 in 2023, and has continued to launch new books, products and television projects. In 2024, Netflix released the documentary Martha, giving fans an intimate look at her life and career.
