The police investigation involving Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway’s older son, Marius Borg Høiby, has been completed. On June 27, the Oslo Police District shared an update on its investigation into Crown Prince Haakon‘s 28-year-old stepson and the charges against him, which include one case of rape with intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexually offensive behavior, one case of abuse in close relationships, two cases of bodily harm, one case of damage, one case of threats, five violations of restraining order, one case of harassment of a police officer and five road traffic offenses.

Marius was arrested three times last year in connection with the case. The first arrest was on Aug. 4, 2024 for an incident at Frogner. He was then arrested on Sept. 13, 2024 for violating a restraining order, and again on Nov. 18, 2024 “due to the risk of evidence being lost” and was “was subsequently remanded in custody for one week, charged with two counts of rape without intercourse.”

In the update on Friday, the Oslo Police District stated (translated to English): “During the investigation, we have both received reports that have led to an investigation, and investigated cases that the police have come across in the investigation material along the way. Criminal cases have been investigated within several categories of cases, including violent and sexual offenses. The police have conducted a thorough investigation of the cases, with a large number of witness interviews, several searches and a review of extensive digital material. The accused has been questioned by the police several times during the fall of 2024 and spring of 2025. He has now completed his questioning and he has cooperated with the police. The investigation has been completed and the cases have been sufficiently investigated for the police to draw conclusions.”

The Oslo Police District also noted that “the charges have been served on the accused.”

According to the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, police attorney Andreas Kruszewski said on Friday that the case now has a double-digit number of victims. Høiby’s defense attorney, Petar Sekulic, told Dagbladet that Marius strongly denies the rape charges. Petar said (translated to English): “He takes this very seriously. He has cooperated very well with the police and has been interviewed in a number of cases.”

After being arrested last August, Marius released a statement (via Seg og Hør), saying that he had “committed bodily harm and destroyed objects in an apartment in the intoxication of alcohol and cocaine after an argument.”

“I have several mental disorders which mean that throughout my upbringing and adult life, I have had, and still have, challenges. I have struggled with substance abuse for a long time, something I have been in treatment for in the past. I will now resume this treatment and take it very seriously,” Marius said (translated to English). “The drug use and my diagnoses do not excuse what happened in the apartment at Frogner on the night of Sunday last weekend. I want to be responsible for what I have done, and I want to explain myself truthfully to the police.”

Marius also apologized to his family in his statement. “I know that my actions have largely rubbed off on you,” he said. “So to you my love, I’m sorry. This should never have happened, and I take full responsibility for my actions.”

Marius is the Crown Princess’ son from a previous relationship. In 2001, Mette-Marit married King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway’s son, Crown Prince Haakon, whom she shares 21-year-old daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra and 19-year-old son Prince Sverre Magnus with. On Friday, the Norwegian Royal House shared a statement with NRK, which read (translated to English): “The case is taking its course in the legal system, and follows normal procedures. We have nothing more to add.”
