Grab your broomsticks and midnight margaritas: “Practical Magic 2” is officially on the spellbook and will land in theaters on September 18, 2026. More than two decades after Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock first danced barefoot in their kitchen and resurrected a very bad ex, the Owens sisters are back to stir up more trouble and magic.

Warner Bros. announced the sequel’s release date with a moody teaser trailer featuring our favorite witchy duo incanting a new spell: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix. September 18, 2026.”

Midnight Margaritas, Curses, and Comebacks

When “Practical Magic” hit theaters in 1998, it was a hot mess at the box office. Critics weren’t much kinder. But it cast a long, slow-burning spell over the years on fans. What started as a supernatural rom-dramedy has since become a full-blown cult classic, celebrated for its sisterhood, style, and strangely comforting chaos.

Kidman and Bullock, who will reprise their roles as the chaotic Gillian and the grounded Sally Owens, recently reflected on the film’s rocky origins in a Rolling Stone oral history about that infamous “midnight margaritas” scene.

“‘Hollywood’ made the movie and fully leaned into it,” Bullock said. “They may have regretted it once we got eviscerated, but they were brave enough to make it back then, so for that I am so grateful.”

Kidman added, “I just remember loving the film. I won’t be pulled off it if I love it. And I love it!”

The Sequel’s Spellbinding Details

The new installment will be directed by Susanne Bier (“The Undoing,” “Bird Box”) and written by Akiva Goldsman, whose resume is a buffet of genres (“A Beautiful Mind,” “Fringe,” “Star Trek: Picard”). This time around, the story draws from one of the later books in Alice Hoffman‘s “Practical Magic” series, which includes “The Rules of Magic,” “Magic Lessons,” and “The Book of Magic.”

Warner Bros. hasn’t spilled exactly which book the film is adapting, but Variety reports that it taps into deeper lore and generational magic. That means more family secrets, more supernatural stakes, and probably more unfortunate men meeting unfortunate ends.

Bullock and Kidman aren’t just starring; they’re also producing the sequel alongside longtime franchise producer Denise Di Novi. The magic is staying in the family.

A Second Chance for a Cult Classic

It’s not the first time Warner Bros. tried to extend the Practical-verse. In 2019, a planned “Rules of Magic” TV prequel fizzled before it hit the cauldron. But this time, the studio seems all in, thanks to the ever-growing popularity of the original film on streaming, TikTok tributes, and a generation raised on feminist fantasy.

In a cinematic landscape where nostalgia meets newfound witchcore, “Practical Magic 2” arrives at the perfect moment. Whether you’re here for the spells, the sisterhood, or the eyeliner inspo, the sequel promises a new kind of magic.
