A week after Marius Borg was charged with 32 felonies, Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have reappeared in the public eye. Despite the charges that could result in 10 years in prison, the Norwegian Crown continues attending its different engagements. The couple was joined by Queen Sonja, showing a united front against adversities.
The prince and princess appeared at Gamlehaugen, a historical palace located in Bergen, the official residence of the Norwegian royals when they’re in town. Haakon and Mette-Marit arrived at the destination looking happy and smiling, enjoying a fun day alongside a group of students who gathered to play in the park.
The royal couple, who served as the event’s official hosts, was joined by Queen Sonja, who also participated in the event. The neighbors and residents of the area were all invited to enjoy the celebration, which included a performance from the rap group Asane City, the Bergen Philharmonic, the Girls Choir of Edvard Grieg, and more.
The princess wore a fun look made up of beige pants that she paired with a colorful jacket. The prince wore dress pants alongside a button-up and a navy jacket.
Marius Borg has been accused of grave crimes
“This case is very serious,” said Sturla Henriksbo, the DA of Norway. He described Borg’s alleged crimes as the type that can leave an imprint and destroy lives. Despite all of this, there’s not enough evidence to arrest Borg as of this writing, with these decisions taking place after his trial, scheduled for early next year.
Prince Haakon has been the only member of the royal house to address the accusations. “It’s been a difficult and challenging time for us all,” he said. “The accusations have been clarified. Now it’s up to the jury to decide. For our part, we’ll continue to carry out our duties,” he said seriously.
“Everyone involved in the case has found it challenging.”
