As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare to move back to the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after spending six years living in the US, the question of where the young royals will attend school has naturally arisen.

Both Archie and Lilibet are already enrolled in school in Britain, with their term commencing in September. The Sussexes plan to be settled into their new home in the UK by the end of August.

While the couple have kept the name of Archie and Lilibet’s school private due to security concerns, the location of the institution is near their new non-royal residence in Britain. Seven-year-old Archie is enrolled in Year Three, while his five-year-old sister is enrolled in Year One.

It is widely expected that the duo will attend a co-educational day school rather than a boarding school, similar to Lambrook School, where their cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are in attendance.

George and Charlotte originally attended Thomas’s Battersea school in London, before Prince William and Princess Kate relocated their family from Kensington to Windsor in 2022.

“Their Royal Highnesses are hugely grateful to Thomas’s Battersea where George and Charlotte have had a happy start to their education since 2017 and 2019, respectively, and are pleased to have found a school for all three of their children which shares a similar ethos and values to Thomas’s,” the couple wrote in a statement at the time.

George, Charlotte and Louis have since attended Lambrook School, with the eldest Wales child preparing to start at Eton College in September.

Both William and Harry attended Eton, yet the latter wrote in his 2023 memoir, Spare, that joining the school was “a profound shock”.

“In the early autumn of 1998, having completed my education at Ludgrove the previous spring, I entered Eton. A profound shock. The finest school in the world for boys, Eton was meant to be a shock, I think,” he recalled.

“Shock must’ve been part of its original charter, even perhaps a part of the instructions given to its first architects by the school’s founder, my ancestor Henry VI,” Harry continued.

“He deemed Eton some sort of holy shrine, a sacred temple, and to that end he wanted it to overwhelm the senses, so visitors would feel like meek, abased pilgrims. In my case, mission accomplished.” The father of two added that he often felt out of place at the prestigious school.

“Once or twice I’d confess to a teacher or fellow student that I wasn’t merely in the wrong class but in the wrong location. I was in way, way over my head. They’d always say the same thing: Don’t worry, you’ll be all right.”

The prince previously shut down rumours that he had plans to send Archie to Eton when he was of age. “Prince Harry has not put his son’s name down for Eton, nor does he have any plans to do so,” a Sussex spokesperson told the Daily Mail in 2025.

Harry and Meghan will not send their children to his primary school, Ludgrove, as it is boarding-only and single sex.
