The bombshell news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving back to the UK, six years after announcing their decision to step back as working royals and reside in the US, has left many with questions about what their new life in England will look like.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already enrolled their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in schools in Britain, in a move that Harry hinted at back in September 2025 when he attended the WellChild Awards.
Harry’s major hint
The 41-year-old spoke with British singer Joss Stone at the event about her decision to move back to the UK after living in Nashville for several years. The mum of four brought along her daughter, Nalima, and introduced the baby to Harry on the night.
“It was really sweet to see him after all these years,” she told HELLO! “Harry was so lovely with Nalima – even though she slept through the whole thing! I will be sure to tell her that when she was two months old a prince cooed over her and said she was beautiful.”
“He joked about me having four children, saying it’s ‘two too many,’ or maybe it wasn’t a joke!” she continued. “He also asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home.”
“Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice,” Joss mused.

“He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children. It was nice to share that with him because it’s exactly why we felt drawn to come back – for the kids to grow up surrounded by family, friends, and a strong sense of belonging and, most importantly, in a safe environment.”
Prince Archie was born in the UK in 2019, while Harry and Meghan welcomed Lilibet in California in 2021.
The prince’s homeland
Harry previously shared that he was hesitant to bring his family back to the UK due to security concerns, and lamented that Archie and Lilibet would never know his homeland.
“I can’t see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the UK at this point,” he told the BBC in 2025.
“And the things that they’re going to miss is well – everything. I love my country. I always have, despite what some people in that country have done.”
“I miss the UK,” he added. “I miss parts of the UK, of course I do. And I think that it’s quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
Meghan’s privacy concerns
Meanwhile, Meghan shared with The Cut in 2022 that she enjoyed the privacy and anonymity that the US afforded when it came to dropping her children off to school, compared to the media circus in the UK.
The Duchess explained that “she’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures”.
“Sorry, I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
Currently, Archie and Lilibet’s cousins, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, attend Lambrook School in Berkshire, England, while Prince George will start at Eton College near Windsor in September.
