Prince Harry and Meghan Markle looked more loved-up than ever as they enjoyed a Valentine’s weekend date night at the NBA All-Star game on Sunday night.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured courtside at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles – with the Prince making a sentimental nod to his time back in the UK with a hidden detail on his grey baseball cap. Harry, 41, had opted for a laid-back look with a black button-down shirt and dark jeans, along with the cap, which had an embroidered Union Jack patch on the side.
The detail was soon noted by people on social media, with one royal fan asking on X, formerly Twitter: “Is that a Union Jack flag?” while another noted: “Harry wanted everyone to remember that he is British.”
The front of the cap read “Fear Naught”, which is the motto of the Royal Tank Regiment. While Harry did not serve in the regiment, he has worked closely with the charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which supports bereaved British Forces children and young people in the UK. Harry has worked with the charity since 2017 and became its global ambassador in 2023; he typically writes a Remembrance Letter to families supported by the charity every year.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers has adopted the “Fear Naught” slogan for their clothing brand, which sees 100 per cent of proceeds go to charity. It’s believed Harry’s hat is a piece from the charity. The phrase has often been used by the royals, and Queen Elizabeth once quoted the slogan in a speech to the Royal Tank Regiment in 2008, saying: “My best wishes to you all, and ‘Fear Naught’.”
Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020 and moved to the US that year. They now have a strained relationship with the rest of the royal family back in the UK. Harry last saw his father, King Charles, for a brief meeting in September, but has not been in the same room as his brother, Prince William, since the funeral for their uncle Lord Fellowes in 2024. It is understood they did not speak and that they sat separately.
Prince Harry’s ‘hatgate’
While Harry’s cap on Sunday night made for a sweet nod to a cause close to his heart, he previously apologised for his choice of headgear at a sporting event.
In November, Harry wore a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap instead of a Toronto Blue Jays hat at the World Series with Meghan, with the couple donning matching hats.
Harry later addressed “hatgate” during a solo trip to Toronto. “Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it,” the Prince told CTV News. “Secondly, I was under duress. There wasn’t much choice.” The Duke explained: “I was invited to the L.A. Dodgers box, or the dugout by the owner himself, so I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do.”
Harry then reached off-camera for a Blue Jays hat and put it on saying: “I’m gonna wear this from now on, to make sure I don’t make any more of those mistakes.”
Meanwhile, for Harry’s 40th birthday, Meghan made him a baseball cap reading “PH40”, revealing the detail in the second season of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan. She said at the time: “Now we get into the things that bring me joy. I always have a baseball cap. I made these for my husband’s 40th birthday for him and his friends.”
Harry and Meghan’s night out at the game
The couple were seated alongside a lively group of fellow guests, including Queen Latifah and her family, adding to the buzzy atmosphere of the night. At one point, Meghan, 44, clasped her hands together and beamed toward the court, while Harry looked on proudly, clearly enjoying the shared experience.
Another sweet snapshot showed the pair sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, Meghan holding a drink as Harry wrapped an arm comfortably around her back, the two appearing completely absorbed in both the game and each other.
The loved-up appearance came after Meghan shared a sweet photo for Valentine’s Day of Prince Harry with their daughter Princess Lilibet, four, holding a bunch of red balloons.
