Prince Harry is enjoying life back in the UK, from country walks to the classic British food staples – though a few culinary choices have sparked some lighthearted banter at home!
The Duke of Sussex spoke to HELLO! on Monday, September 21, as he attended the 2026 WellChild Awards ceremony in London, where he gave a rare insight into family life.
The dad-of-two revealed in the video below that his and Meghan Markle’s two young children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, used to tease him about having Marmite at home when they lived in California, but that now it was all “water under the bridge” since it’s a household staple in England.
“Is that a British thing? Because it’s always been in my life, and now the kids are eating Marmite on crumpets, which is big for me,” he said of the famous savoury spread. “They do [approve], they do very much. I mean, they used to diss me for having Marmite in the house, and now they’re in the UK it’s like that’s kind of like water under the bridge, so it’s good.”
He added that beans on toast “hadn’t gone down very well” with his children when they tried them in California several years ago.
The hands-on dad also revealed how earlier in the day, he managed to resolve a “tricky” morning with his young children by opening up to them about the brave children he was about to meet at the WellChild ceremony.
“At breakfast this morning, they had a bit of Monday morning blues,” he admitted. “There’s always something like Sunday night blues or boarding school… when you’ve been away, or before you go to school.
© Instagram“But at breakfast this morning, I decided, ‘You know what? You’re being a little bit tricky, so I’m going to tell you exactly what I’m doing tonight.’ And they were genuinely fascinated and asking all sorts of questions.
“So, like with all of my work and their mum’s work as well, whatever we can do to try to instil some of that awareness, I think is absolutely crucial.”
© Getty ImagesNow that he is back in the UK, Harry – who has been a patron of WellChild since 2007 – has plans to work a lot more with the charity.
“No longer being 5,000 miles away should make it easier to be more available to support the charities that need us, and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

The Duke later choked up as he delivered an emotional speech to inspirational WellChild families.
