It’s a proud day for Princess Eugenie as her son, August Brooksbank, celebrates his 5th birthday.
Eugenie, 35, the younger daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, will likely be celebrating the milestone in private today – either at their London residence, Ivy Cottage, in the grounds of Kensington Palace, or in Portugal, where they also divide their time. August, affectionately known as ‘Augie’, is her eldest son. She also shares Ernest, two, with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, whom she married in 2018.
While Eugenie has traditionally shared photos of her sons on their birthdays to her official Instagram account, @princesseugenie, this year’s celebrations are likely to be more low-key as they come amid fallout from newly released documents concerning criminal financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in which both Andrew and Sarah are mentioned multiple times. Ever since new information regarding her parents and Epstein came to light in November, Eugenie has appeared to scale back her social media presence, with no new posts since then.
She has mostly been keeping a low profile in recent months, but enjoyed a girls’ weekend to a countryside retreat last month with her sister, Princess Beatrice, Gabriela Peacock, as well as Fifi Howden, wife of David Howden, who is CEO of insurance company, Howden, and founder of the Cornbury House Horse Trials. Over the weekend, she was pictured in Doha, Qatar, at the Art Basel event 2026 in her capacity as director at art gallery Hauser & Wirth.
Who is Princess Eugenie’s son, August?
August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born on 9 February 2021 and is thought to be named after Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, whose middle name was ‘Augustus’.
August was born while Prince Philip was in hospital – and Eugenie gave a sweet nod to her grandfather, writing on Instagram at the time: “On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy. He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers.”
Over the years, Eugenie has shared several glimpses of her son on social media, showing him to have auburn hair and an engaging personality.
Last year, Eugenie shared pictures of her son wearing an aviator-style jacket with patches at his birthday party – showing that, like Prince George, he also has an interest in planes and aviation. She wrote at the time: “Happy birthday my darling Augie. 4 today. And what an amazing 4 years. You are so incredibly focused and inquisitive and full of adventure and speed. Can’t wait for all our adventures…so many more to come. I love you my boy, my angel.”
Beatrice and Eugenie are ‘standing by’ Andrew
In the last few weeks, further emails have emerged from the so-called “Epstein files”, revealing that the late convicted paedophile paid for Sarah and her daughters to fly to the US to have lunch with him, just days after he was released from prison in 2009. In other messages exchanged by Sarah and Epstein, she makes a crude comment about Eugenie’s love life, calls the financier “the brother I have always wished for” and tells him: “Just marry me.”
However, a friend of the family has denied that the sisters have cut off contact with their father. “The sisters are not abandoning their father. They aren’t turning their backs on him. But everything is obviously very strained and hard,” the friend tells HELLO!.
Beatrice, 37, was recently seen riding on horseback with her father and her daughter, Sienna, at Windsor, in pictures published by The Sun. Andrew has since left Royal Lodge in Windsor and has moved temporarily to Wood Farm cottage on the Sandringham Estate.
