For nearly eight years, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas have lived their love story in the spotlight. They have also weathered the commentary that comes with it.
Now, the star is making it clear that she is no longer entertaining the noise. “We’re eight years in,” Priyanka told Variety in a cover story published Wednesday, Feb. 11. “If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it.”
The 43-year-old actress, who married the singer in 2018, has grown accustomed to the speculation surrounding their relationship. Over time, she has come to view it less as a personal attack and more as an occupational side effect. What once stung now barely registers.
When asked about the scrutiny, Priyanka acknowledged that her relationship with the New Jersey native, 33, seemed to “rub people the wrong way,” even if she could not quite understand why.
“I think there was the intercultural nature of it — different countries, different religions, age gap. It was very hurtful,” she said. Rather than let outside opinions drive a wedge between them, the couple turned inward. “And we both, instead of looking out, just sort of looked at each other, and we were like, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ So it’s like water off a duck’s back now.”
That resilience was not always easy. Early in their marriage, Priyanka admitted she wrestled with doubts of her own. The pair wed after a whirlwind romance, getting engaged within six months of meeting. “When I first married him, I didn’t know if it was even real. This part of him. Because I was like this is crazy. This is put on,” she recalled.
“But Nick has this absolute sincerity. It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on. He’s constantly sincere.” She also credits his upbringing for that steadiness. “His parents are the most wonderful, levelheaded, absolute saints, so I can see where it comes from. But it’s such a disarming quality about him.”
Today, their focus is firmly on their family and flourishing careers. The couple shares a 4-year-old daughter, Malti, and juggle busy schedules that span continents and industries. Priyanka currently stars in the action film The Bluff, while Nick recently debuted his album Sunday Best. Through it all, their priority remains their life together, not the headlines that attempt to define it.
Rumors have surfaced before, including speculation that intensified when Priyanka temporarily removed “Jonas” from her social media handles. She later dismissed the chatter, reinforcing that not every online change signals real-life turmoil.
Publicly, the two have continued to celebrate one another. In July 2024, Nick marked the anniversary of his proposal with a heartfelt Instagram tribute, writing, “I asked the most amazing woman in the world to marry me 6 years ago today. Thank you for saying yes.”
When they celebrated their wedding anniversary in December 2025, he shared another sweet note. “7 years married to my dream girl,” while Priyanka responded in kind, writing, “You’re what dreams are made of.”
The consistency of those messages reflects what Priyanka describes as the foundation of their marriage. Instead of responding to every rumor cycle, she has opted for perspective.
For her, the speculation is no longer personal. It is background noise that comes with fame, something she now categorizes as a “professional hazard.” What matters most is the bond they built when they chose each other, quickly and wholeheartedly, back in 2018.
Nearly a decade in, she sounds certain of one thing. If critics are still waiting for cracks to appear, they may be waiting a long time.
