Queen Camilla raised eyebrows last summer (pun intended) when she stepped out with her brows looking darker and more polished than ever, leading us to wonder what Her Royal Highness had had done to her face-framers.

Her Majesty’s brows looked equally defined on Wednesday, when the Royal Family welcomed the President of Nigeria to the UK for a state visit, with Queen Camilla’s baby pink outfit highlighting her statement brows.

The question as to what Queen Camilla has done to her brows has finally been answered by semi-permanent makeup artist Suzanne Martin, who took to her Instagram page to reveal exactly how Her Majesty tends to her eyebrows for the natural look that royal fans have called “fabulous” and “believable”.

“Our beloved Queen Camilla, always a pleasure! Thank you for trusting me,” Suzanne wrote alongside a beautiful picture of the 78-year-old Queen, revealing that she booked in at London’s exclusive Lanesborough Spa, opting for the semi-permanent makeup artist and aesthetician’s trademark treatment, The Couture Brow, which she calls a “perfectly natural and endlessly flattering” eyebrow enhancement.

The Couture Brows sees semi-permanent makeup tattooed atop your own brows.

“Colours are blended to achieve the correct shade, then hair strokes are mimicked and drawn under the surface of the skin using a needle that is actually more like a sharp pen. Good anaesthetic cream is applied, so the treatment is not at all uncomfortable. The results are always perfectly natural,” Suzanne tels HELLO!. Two treatments a month apart are required, taking an hour and a half each. Top-ups are needed every six to eight months to keep them looking royal-worthy.

On how her brow makeover keeps Queen Camilla looking fresh, Suzanne explains: “When designed with intention, the perfect brow lifts, balances and reveals the natural beauty of the eyes, enhancing what is there rather than masking it.”

Of her treatment procedure, she says: “Every detail of your brow experience is designed to feel effortless, calming, and impeccably tailored to you. My intention is simple. To make my clients look and feel beautiful.”

Soft and natural

While the idea of a tattooed brow might seem intimidating, with visions of heavy, dark brows springing to mind, Queen Camilla’s bespoke brows perfectly complement her face, with Suzanne explaining that the brows she creates are designed to soften naturally over time.

“They evolved with your face, and can be refined as trends and tastes change,” she reassures.

Suzanne explains how to create brows that frame your face and suit you.

  1. Brows should follow your natural bone structure

“They should work with the face instead of forcing a shape that doesn’t belong there.”

  1. Brows should complement your eye shape and facial proportions

“They should create balance rather than drawing attention to one feature.”

  1. Brows have definition without harshness

“Keep the brow soft, believable and wearable every day.”

  1. Frame the face quietly

“Brows should support the overall look instead of becoming the focal point.”

Brows in our 70s

Actress and HELLO! columnist Glynis Barber, 70, had her brows tattooed after years of filling them in with a pencil – and found the process game-changing.

“Eyebrow tattooing allowed me to wake up with my eyebrows ready to go for the day. No need for all that time-consuming filling in.”

Glynis notes how refreshing brows can be, explaining: “If your eyebrows aren’t right, it can make you look ten years older. If they’re good, they can make you look years younger. A good brow shape is everything,” she continues. “It will flatter and make your face look younger. Too thin is ageing, in my opinion, and too thick can be overpowering. It’s down to personal choice, of course, but in my book, you don’t want your brows to take over your face.”
