The King and Queen of Spain and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, came together again for an official event. It happened this Wednesday, July 23, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, during the 2025 Princess of Girona Awards ceremony. But we actually saw them earlier in the day at a lunch with the award winners and foundation board members at the Hotel Grand Marina. At that lunch, the heir to the throne paid tribute to Catalonia with her outfit and coordinated her look with her sister, while Letizia re-wore a flattering Mango suit.
Mother and daughter show their style bond
Letizia once again demonstrated her effortless elegance by wearing a sharp, modern look. Princess Leonor matched Queen Letizia in a nearly identical dark tuxedo, making it clear that their style connection is stronger than ever. The tailored outfits were simple yet powerful, with only minor details distinguishing them from each other. Together, they delivered a standout fashion moment rooted in confidence and unity.
For Queen Letizia, it is nothing new to wear a tuxedo. In 2019, she chose a tuxedo for the stage, opting for a bold Pertegaz design that included an elegant jacket featuring feather embroidery on the sleeves. In 2015, the year the awards were renamed after King Felipe VI ascended to the throne, Queen Letizia attended the event in Catalonia wearing a classic black tuxedo by Hugo Boss.
Queen Letizia embraces Catalan fashion
The tuxedo-style suit that she is wearing today is by Mango. The suit features a satin-trimmed blazer and wide-leg palazzo trousers. She previously wore this look only once, at the Francisco Cerecedo Journalism Award ceremony on November 18, 2024.
To style her outfit in Barcelona, Letizia brought back a pair of Tous earrings that she has owned since 2016. They are long and feature four dangling pieces adorned with small round beads. She also wore her signature Coreterno ring, a Magrit clutch, and her black block-heel baby pumps by Sézane, model Paula, which she debuted on May 9, 2023.
The differences between Princess Leonor and Queen Letizia
To complete their suits, both Princess Leonor and Queen Letizia chose dark tops that blend seamlessly with their outfits. SHowever, there are three clear differences that give each outfit its unique personality.
First, the cut of the jackets stands out—Princess Leonor’s has a shinier, more daring finish. Second, Princess Leonor chose a deep navy blue, which is a fresher and more youthful shade compared to Queen Letizia’s classic black. Lastly, let’s discuss their hairstyles. Leonor wore her hair in a sleek bun, while Queen Letizia kept hers down in soft, natural waves.
Princess Leonor debuts a Bleis Madrid suit
Princess Leonor took a noticeable turn in her style this year compared to her previous appearances at the Princess of Girona Awards. Since her debut in 2019, the heir to the throne has consistently chosen bright colors, having worn a total of three dresses and two skirt sets up to this point. This is why the 2025 edition stands out.
This time, she opted for a tailored suit by Bleis Madrid, made from a luminous jacquard fabric. The look features a masculine-cut blazer with relaxed shoulders and straight-leg trousers. According to the brand, this suit is “a two-piece with an impeccable silhouette and a fabric full of character and personality.” The suit is part of the brand’s Fall/Winter 2023–2024 collection.
To elevate her look even more for the occasion, Princess Leonor wore a pair of diamond earrings from Queen Letizia’s jewelry collection, pieces she has borrowed before and that date back to 2014. She completed the outfit with black pointed-toe pumps with a kitten heel, the Yaiza model by PINKCHIC guagua priced at 115 euros, a ring on the index finger of her left hand just like her mother, and the black Olivia Mareque bag she first carried on July 7, 2023.
Queen Letizia’s looks at the Princess of Girona Awards
At the Princess of Girona Awards, which were formerly known as the Prince of Asturias Awards until 2014, Letizia has consistently demonstrated a balance between formality and modern elegance. Her style choices have ranged from classic dresses to sharp tuxedos, with each outfit reflecting a contemporary take on royal protocol. These two distinct styles highlight Queen Letizia’s versatility and have helped shape a memorable fashion legacy at the Princess of Girona Awards.
In 2024, at the Princess of Girona Awards held at the Costa Brava Conference Center in Lloret de Mar, Girona, Queen Letizia debuted a beautiful white midi dress with black tulip silhouettes designed by Carolina Herrera. She paired the look with a new bag from the same brand, the Bimba 1 model, which is now owned by the Spanish group Puig. Her black block-heel sandals, the Melanie model by Hugo Boss with a five-centimeter heel, were also new. FIn addition to jewelry and her signature Coreterno ring, she also brought back her long jasmine drop earrings by Carolina Herrera.
