Queen Mary of Denmark proved why she is one of Europe’s most stylish royals as she stepped out in a figure-flattering polka-dot dress for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FEI World Championships in Aachen, Germany.
The 54-year-old looked effortlessly elegant in the flowing caramel creation, which cinched her waist and showcased her toned arms as she joined Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands for the prestigious equestrian event.
The two royals sat side by side for the prestigious equestrian event, and while they took very different approaches to summer dressing, their contrasting ensembles worked beautifully together.
The event brought together an impressive gathering of European royalty, with Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Zara Tindall and Spain’s Infanta Elena also among those in attendance. Princess Amalia had the honor of officially opening the championships.
Queen Mary’s elegant polka-dot dress
Queen Mary embraced one of her most sophisticated silhouettes for the occasion, wearing a floor-skimming caramel dress scattered with delicate white polka dots.
The sleeveless design featured an elegant gathered halter neckline, while its fluid skirt fell beautifully from the waist. Rather than allowing the loose silhouette to overwhelm her frame, Mary added definition with a striking jeweled belt featuring rich amber and ruby-colored stones.
The accessory brought an unexpected touch of sparkle to the otherwise understated dress and coordinated beautifully with her ornate drop earrings.
Mary completed her look with metallic bronze peep-toe heels, stacked bracelets and a coordinating clutch. Her brunette hair was worn loose in softly tousled, shoulder-length waves, while her makeup remained characteristically polished, with softly defined eyes, rosy cheeks and a muted pink lip.
Princess Amalia’s fresh take on summer dressing
Beside her, Princess Amalia offered an altogether different take on royal occasionwear.
The future Dutch queen looked radiant in a white midi dress decorated with bold emerald-green vertical stripes.
Its structured bodice created a flattering silhouette, while statement bow details at the shoulders gave the dress a playful quality that felt perfectly suited to the 22-year-old.
Amalia continued the green theme with spectacular emerald drop earrings and a textured green clutch, adding delicate gold jewelry and a classic gold Cartier watch.
Her long blonde hair was swept into a romantic half-up style, with loose waves falling over her shoulders. The princess opted for glowing makeup with defined lashes, softly bronzed eyes and a berry-pink lip.
Queen Mary and Princess Amalia’s contrasting royal style
Perhaps the most striking thing about the royal pair’s appearance was how well their completely different wardrobes worked alongside one another.
Mary’s warm caramel palette and classic polka dots delivered the timeless sophistication that has made the Danish queen one of Europe’s most consistently elegant royal dressers.
Amalia’s graphic stripes, meanwhile, felt younger and more contemporary without losing the polish expected of a future queen. Photographed chatting together during the ceremony, the pair appeared relaxed in one another’s company, with Amalia leaning towards Mary as they watched proceedings.
The image also offered a glimpse at two generations of future-facing royal style, with Mary providing a masterclass in sophisticated dressing in her 50s and Amalia increasingly establishing her own fashion identity.
