This wasn’t the first time—and it certainly won’t be the last—that Queen Máxima of the Netherlands (54) has shown her full support for her country during top-level sports competitions, as she did this Saturday at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. Smiling and full of energy throughout, the wife of King Willem-Alexander (58) was joined by their youngest daughter, Princess Ariane (18), who also had a wonderful time cheering on their national team in person.

The Queen chose the perfect outfit for the occasion: an elegant, all-orange dress in tribute to the iconic color of her team’s kit (even though the Dutch players were wearing their sky-blue away uniform this time). The match between Wales and the Netherlands took place at the Allmend Stadion in Lucerne, Switzerland, with a dominant 3–0 victory for the Dutch side.

The match kicked off at six in the evening and marked the first fixture in Group D. From their seats in the VIP box, Máxima and Ariane followed every moment on the pitch with great attention. They sang the Dutch national anthem as it played over the stadium speakers, applauded the standout plays, and even shared a few laughs together. Undoubtedly, their enjoyment was immense, serving as a fortunate omen for the Oranje’s victory.

This year, the former Euro 2017 champions aren’t among the top favorites to make it to the grand final on July 27 in Basel and lift the trophy, but they do hope to put in a strong showing against more dominant teams. In this context, most experts and fans consider Montse Tomé‘s squad as the main title contender, particularly after their victories in the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the 2024 Nations League.

Just last week, the Spanish national team also received a show of support from Queen Letizia at the Zarzuela Palace, where the players and coaching staff were welcomed in the audience hall. During the visit, King Felipe VI’s wife shared her best wishes with the team before they departed for Switzerland. That day, the Queen was also gifted a personalized jersey with her name on the back, signed by every member of the national squad.

So far, the Royal Household has not confirmed whether any member of the monarchy will travel to Switzerland this month to attend Spain’s matches, although it is very likely they will if La Roja advances through the knockout rounds. They made a powerful debut with a 5–0 win over Portugal. It is worth remembering that Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, who loves football, traveled to London in the summer of 2022 to watch that year’s Women’s Euro. That trip was their first international outing on their own.
