Rafael Nadal is back to practicing a sport that he hadn’t practiced in decades. The tennis icon shared a photo on a Spanish vacation. While Nadal is known for his love of the ocean and the Mediterranean, this time around, he opted for a snowy destination, practicing skiing.
Nadal shared a photo on his Instagram, showing him wearing a brown Moncler ski outfit that he paired with black accessories, including gloves, a helmet, and a thermal face guard. He rounded out the look with some polarized sports glasses.
He’s aboard his skis and holds on to his ski poles in one hand. Nadal stands in the center of the image, with a large mountain in the backdrop. He’s grinning widely for the camera, showing his excitement over practicing the elegant sport. “After 26 years… what an incredible feeling to ski again! Thank you, Moncler & Gfisan, for making it even more special!”
The photo was taken on Baqueira Beret, a mountainous and snowy destination located near the border of France. The post received likes and comments from all sorts of people, including the US Olympian Lindsey Vonn, who dropped some comments in the post.
“We have to ski together when I’m healthy!” she wrote, referencing her recent injury, which she acquired while participating in the Milan-Cortina Olympics that just concluded. “Si!!! Me encanta Baquiera!!”
Nadal’s love of sports
Following his retirement from tennis, Nadal has been able to practice numerous sports, flexing his competitive skills in different ways.
In an appearance on last year’s French Open, he shared that he hadn’t gotten back to tennis and was happy with the break he was taking from the sport. “I am competitive again. Just to let you know, I am enjoying my daily competitions when I play golf and when I do things, but I think in a much nicer way,” he said.
Last November, Nadal was briefly on tennis courts with Alexandra Eala, an exciting and young player from the Philippines. The clip was featured on his social media, showing the two playing against each other at Nadal’s tennis academy.
“One year later, it felt great to be back on a tennis court! It was great to practice with you, Alex Eala! Next time I will be stronger,” he wrote.
