Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s son Sir Carter was noticeably absent at the Super Bowl on February 8 – which marked the third year in a row that his twin, Rumi, eight, has attended without him.
The annual sporting event – which this year saw the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots face off – has become a big tradition for Jay-Z and his daughters – something they clearly enjoy doing together.
Blue has joined the rapper since 2020, which started a sweet tradition with an annual jump photo on the pitch. The family have strong ties to the event, as Jay-Z’s company, Roc Nation, has been in charge of the annual halftime performance for seven years now.
Where was Sir Carter at the Super Bowl?
While Rumi and Blue enjoy being in the spotlight, Sir has remained out of the public eye for most of his life.
He wasn’t seen during the Cowboy Carter tour – neither on stage with his sisters or in the crowd – although he featured in never-before-seen family photos that were played during a montage during Beyoncé’s Protector song – which featured Sir’s twin, Rumi.
It’s most likely that Sir was enjoying time with his mom, Beyoncé, while his sisters were hanging out at the Super Bowl.
His grandmother, Tina Knowles, previously revealed that while her granddaughters love the spotlight, Sir is a lot more shy.
Talking to HELLO! in October at the Angel Ball Gala, Tina was asked whether Sir would likely join Rumi and Blue in the future on stage.
She replied that it was unlikely, given that Sir was not into the spotlight – the reason he has also chosen to skip public events.
Tina said: “Sir is very laid back and not into the spotlight, so I don’t know, but who knows? We’ll see.”
The Matriarch author also shared her unique take on being a grandmother and said: “You know, I’m a really cool grandma. I pride myself on being a cool grandma.”
She previously told E! News about her grandchildren, explaining: “Rumi is amazing—an amazing artist, painter, and creator… Sir is very quiet. He does all of the numbers stuff, so he’s not into fashion as much. She then added that he was “very, very smart.”
While Beyoncé and Jay-Z are in the public eye, they also prefer to stay out of the limelight when they aren’t working.
In an interview with GQ, Beyoncé said: “One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand. It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art.
“I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.”
