Rob Lowe shared a close-up selfie with wife Sheryl during a date night, prompting fans to ask how the couple appeared to be getting younger after 35 years of marriage.
The actor, 62, leaned his head against his wife’s as they posed together, wearing a dark blue patterned shirt with an open collar and a gold chain. Sheryl wore a pale blue blouse with gathered sleeves, accessorising with layered necklaces and small gold hoop earrings.
Her blonde hair fell in loose waves around her shoulders, while coral lipstick completed her look. The couple smiled softly at the camera, with warm lighting and wood panelling behind them.
“Date night with Love Bug!” Rob captioned the photograph, which was shared in a joint Instagram post with Sheryl’s jewellery account.
Followers quickly filled the comments with compliments, with several focusing on their youthful appearance.
“You’re both getting younger each year!” one wrote, before tagging their son John Owen and joking: “I’m giving you ammo but damn if your parents aren’t defying time!”
Another asked: “What in the Benjamin Button is going on,” while a third added: “Do you ever age??? Good grief.” Actress Leslie Mann also responded with three red heart emojis.

Other followers were drawn to the affection between the couple, who married in July 1991. “That’s a really nice photo of you two. Not just because you both look great (which you do!), but because you are clearly so close and true partners after all of these years. It’s inspiring!” one commented.
Another wrote: “Power Couple EXTRAORDINAIRE! The Fountain of Youth never leaves either one of you!”
Rob and Sheryl’s relationship began years before their wedding. They first met on a blind date in 1983 but did not become a serious couple until reconnecting while working on Bad Influence in 1989.
Sheryl worked as a makeup artist before establishing her jewellery business, while Rob’s career took him from films including The Outsiders and St. Elmo’s Fire to television roles in The West Wing and Parks and Recreation.
Rob Lowe’s secret to his lasting marriage
Rob repeatedly credited friendship as an important part of their relationship. Speaking on the Goopfellas podcast in 2019, he offered a simple piece of advice about choosing a partner: “If there’s any way to marry your best friend, do it.”
He explained that the other elements of a relationship could change over time, making that underlying friendship particularly valuable.
He also acknowledged the effort involved in maintaining their bond. In his 2025 interview with AARP The Magazine, Rob discussed their approach to therapy, describing it as something they used proactively. “We both really work on it,” he said. “Therapy is a life hack for us.”
Rob Lowe and Sheryl’s quiet wedding
Their wedding was an intimate occasion at a mutual friend’s house on July 22, 1991. Reflecting on the day in an August 2024 interview with People, Rob recalled keeping the plans private, with guests unaware they were arriving for a wedding. “It was very quiet. Nobody even knew they were coming to a wedding,” he said.
Sheryl organised the celebration within a month of his proposal. Rob, who was newly sober at the time, remembered the wedding as the beginning of a different life with her. “I have nothing but great memories. I had no stress around it.”
Rob Lowe’s family life with sons Matthew and John Owen
The couple went on to welcome two sons, Matthew in 1993 and John Owen in 1995. Rob spoke about wanting their childhood to include everyday experiences away from the entertainment industry. In his AARP interview, he recalled coaching their sports teams and explained why raising them outside Los Angeles mattered to him.”I coached everything I could. It was one of my favorite things I did as a dad,” he told AARP.
As his sons grew older, their working lives also overlapped. Rob starred alongside John Owen in the Netflix comedy Unstable, while Matthew worked with him on family business matters.
The family also shared a playful public dynamic, with John Owen regularly teasing his father online. That reputation was not lost on the follower who tagged him beneath the latest selfie, acknowledging that a compliment about his parents’ looks could provide fresh material.
Rob Lowe’s hopes of becoming a grandfather
Rob also spoke enthusiastically about the possibility of grandchildren after Matthew became engaged to Emily Markus in July 2025.
During a subsequent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, he explained that he liked the idea of experiencing childhood milestones again through another generation of the family. The title itself took a little more getting used to, however. Rob joked about finding a grandparent name that suited him and the challenge of changing people’s perception of the role. “I want to make grandpa hot.”
