The new four-part series picks up after season one’s dramatic cliffhanger, with Huw narrowly escaping death after being stabbed by Patrick, who was unveiled as the Ripton Stalker.

Promising plenty of twists and turns, and brilliant performances from its beloved stars Jason Watkins and Robson Green, it’s no wonder fans are loving the new season. Keep reading to find out more.

What is The Game about?

In season two, Huw has retreated to a remote coastal home with his wife Alice in the hopes of leaving the past behind. But their peaceful life is disturbed when letters begin arriving from imprisoned serial killer Patrick.

The official synopsis reads: “A year after surviving a brutal stabbing, Huw believes he has escaped the psychological grip of serial killer Patrick, now imprisoned for his crimes. But Patrick is not finished. From behind bars, he begins a new game – one that reaches deep into Huw’s family, dismantling his moral compass and forcing him toward an unthinkable choice: stopping Patrick for good might just come at a devastating personal cost.”

What have viewers said about The Game season 2?

It’s safe to say that viewers are already hooked on season two.

Taking to social media, one person described the drama as “riveting,” while another praised Robson as a “great” baddie.

A second fan penned: “I’m hooked from the first series, it’s so good,” while another added: “Had forgotten how creepy and unnerving #TheGame on Channel 5 is. Episode 1 of series 2 has freaked me right out all over again.”

Ahead of season one, Robson revealed that he was inspired by American serial killer, Joseph James DeAngelo, during his preparation for the role.

“I’m addicted to true crime. I’m really interested in people’s MOs and destructive behaviour and how it destroys other people,” he told HELLO! and other press. “There was only one man I looked at: Joseph James DeAngelo, the original night stalker in LA.

“He would go into people’s houses and leave the door open, or he would put an ornament from another house in their house and just mess with people’s minds. He’d wait two weeks before he’d go back in and do it again.”

The actor continued: “It was really interesting that he got his satisfaction, emotional response and validation in life through playing these games, and slowly but surely destroying people psychologically and then in the end, killing them.”

How to watch The Game

There are four episodes in the new season. Episode two airs on Channel 5 at 9pm. The final two episodes will air on Tuesday 8 September at 9pm and on Wednesday 9 September at 9pm.
