Sandra Bullock is the subject of an incredible throwback. A video from 1995 has resurfaced on the internet, showing Bullock as she promotes the movie “The Net,” where she plays a programmer involved in a wider conspiracy. The movie, which paved the way for Bullock’s status as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the early aughts, explored a mysterious topic at the time: the Internet.
A clip is now going viral on social media. It shows Bullock buying a ticket online for her movie, completely shocked by the fact that this is something that modern technology can achieve.
“Click for showtimes and tickets to this movie,” says Bullock at the start of the clip, which appears to have been orchestrated to promote the film. She’s seen wearing a black dress, surrounded by different members of the movie’s producers and workers.
“Click on that,” suggest some of her advisors, with everyone puzzled as to how to make an online purchase, a feat that we do routinely daily. “Okay, it’s frozen,” says Bullock, making a face towards the camera. After various tries, Bullock is seen holding on to a credit card and inputting the necessary data to make the purchase. “Where’s your delete?” she asks.
© Getty Images“I think I’m gonna cry. I’m very emotional,” Bullock says, about to complete the purchase. “You’re the first one!” says one of the men in the room, showing just how rare it was to purchase tickets online, with people buying them in person or through a phone call.
“The Net” came out in July of 1995, starring Bullock, Jeremy Northam, and Dennis Miller, a release that coincided with the popularization of Windows computers at home, with various Internet providers offering this service at home. In the late ’90s, Internet usage blossomed after the release of Google and the adoption of PC units in most American homes. You can check out the clip in full below:
The internet’s reaction
The clip has been a hit with social media users. Initially shared by a user called Todd Spence, they added the following caption, providing some context for the clip.
“In 1995, Sandra Bullock was the first person ever to buy movie theater tickets online, in promotion for her new film THE NET. Wow.” They added in a following post: “We should simplify the internet again and just start over.”
“Those early internet days,” wrote a separate poster.
“It was a simpler and better time,” wrote a second person.
