Sandra Bullock has been surprisingly open about her children during her promo run for Practical Magic 2, but her latest confession about her teenage daughter left one daytime host in disbelief.

The 62-year-old recently appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark and admitted that Laila, 13, has an incredible gift for F1 racing, a revelation that shocked host Kelly Ripa.

“My son is a basketball player, so it’s all things basketball right now,” she said of her 16-year-old son, Louis Bardo.

“So, that’s where his focus is. And Lai, she’s a basketball player, too, but she’s a race car driver,” she added.

“Excuse me? What do you mean? She’s 13, right?” a bewildered Kelly, 55, exclaimed, as Sandra nodded in agreement. “Where does she race cars?” Kelly added.

Sandra explained that Laila’s passion started early, as she used to “take the training wheels off” her bike and ride down the stairs when she was just four years old.

“And then I got her an E-bike in the backyard,” she continued. “And then I found a way to put her in a race car on a private track that might have been a Porsche like 911 race car. She’s 13, mind you, but at this point she’s 12.

“She is so good that they came to me, and they said, ‘If you want to train her, she could be like a Formula 1 racer,'” Sandra went on. “And I go, ‘So how does that look for the mom, like what does that do for me?'”

Sandra revealed that she was advised to “take [Laila] out from school and you’re in Monte Carlo and you’re training.”

Kelly’s co-host and husband, Mark Consuelos, 55, was also surprised by Laila’s gift and asked: “Straight to a car, not a go-kart?”

“Straight to a car,” Sandra replied. “It’s just in her DNA. So, I was like, ‘Okay, you had the taste. Now let’s pull you back a little bit.'”

While Sandra would encourage Laila’s F1 aspirations as an adult, for now, she wants her to explore different hobbies.

Revealing that the teenager has “just started” theater, Sandra said: “I sort of shifted away from the racecar. I was like, ‘Why don’t we try something new this summer?’

“So I sent her to theater camp, which she was not a theater kid. Not at all. But she had friends that were. And when she came home, she was a different child.”

Despite having “so much fun” at camp, Sandra revealed that Laila still “doesn’t want to be at the front” when it comes to performing.

Kids come first

Sandra adopted Laila in 2015 when she was two years old, five years after she adopted her son, when he was just over three months old.

Motherhood completely changed the way Sandra approaches her career. The actress stepped away from acting following the release of The Lost City in 2022 and has made it clear that Louis and Laila’s lives now dictate which projects she accepts.

“If the kids can’t be with me, I’m not going,” she told Interview. “The older they get, the bigger their schedules. And their schedules are more important than me telling a story, period.”
