Savannah Guthrie is back on social media after nearly three weeks away, all while her mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing.
On Friday, March 20, the Today co-anchor, 54, shared a meaningful moment on her Instagram Stories, posting a clip from the show in honor of World Down Syndrome Day. In the segment, her co-hosts connected with members of the nonprofit Best Buddies, an organization that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Savannah has a personal connection to the cause. She serves as an ambassador for the charity and has been “best buddies” with Tara for about ten years. Tara even gave Savannah a heartfelt shoutout during the segment.
In the clip, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin were outside chatting with Tara, who has Down syndrome. She held up a sign that read, “We love you Savannah,” in all caps.
“We love this sign, because we know how much you love Savannah,” Kotb, 61, told Tara.
“Tomorrow’s World Down Syndrome Day and we’re marking it early with some friends from Best Buddies,” Kotb said of the nonprofit.
“It is also near and dear to Savannah,” added Melvin, 46. “Savannah has worked with Best Buddies for many years now and has been best buddies with Tara for about a decade,” he continued, as a photo of Savannah and Tara popped up on screen.
Savannah reacted to the touching moment by adding three yellow heart emojis over the clip.
The Today host has been off the air since her mother Nancy went missing in January. People previously reported that Kotb has been stepping in for Savannah, with other anchors like Sheinelle Jones also filling in when needed.
Since Feb. 6, Kotb has been co-hosting Today alongside Melvin. Jones, 47, joined Melvin during the first week of Savannah’s absence.
Savannah’s last Instagram post before this came on March 2, when she shared a photo of yellow flowers outside her mom’s home.
“We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country , ” wrote Savannah. “Please don’t stop praying and hoping with us. bring her home.”
Nancy was last seen on Jan. 31 after being dropped off at her home in Tucson, Arizona. Investigators believe she may have been kidnapped overnight, pointing to surveillance footage that shows a masked man at her front door.
