Melanie Richards Griffith is an American actress born on August 9, 1957, in New York City. The daughter of actress Tippi Hedren, Melanie began acting as a teenager and appeared in films including Night Moves and Roar before earning wider recognition for her performances in Body Double and Something Wild. Her starring role in the 1988 comedy Working Girl became one of her most celebrated performances, earning her a Golden Globe for Best Actress and an Academy Award nomination.

Melanie continued working steadily throughout the 1990s and 2000s, appearing in films including Pacific Heights, Buffalo Girls, Mulholland Falls, Crazy in Alabama and Cecil B. Demented. In 2003, she made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago, and she later appeared in projects including Hawaii Five-0, Autómata and The Disaster Artist.

Melanie has been married four times to three men. She first married Don Johnson in 1976, but the marriage lasted only several months. She later married Steven Bauer in 1981, and they welcomed son Alexander Bauer before divorcing in 1989. Melanie reunited with Don and married him for a second time in 1989, the same year they welcomed daughter Dakota Johnson. They divorced in 1996.

Melanie later married Antonio Banderas in 1996, and they welcomed daughter Stella Banderas that same year. The pair separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2015, but have remained close friends in the years since. Antonio reiterated in 2026 that Melanie remains one of his best friends, and the former couple continue to spend time together with their family.
