In what is sure to be one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are officially in countdown mode, and it’s happening sooner than anyone expected.
According to TMZ, the couple is set to tie the knot by the end of September in the Montecito/Santa Barbara area. They’re keeping everything super secretive, too; not even their guests know exactly where the ceremony will be. It’s expected to be a two-day event.
Everyone invited will be shuttled in from a secret meeting point in Montecito, making it one of the most hush-hush celebrity weddings we’ve seen in a while. Keeping it a secret means a lower chance of annoying drones trying to get shots to sell to outlets, stalker like paparazzi, or fans trying to crash the event.
The couple has shown signs from the start that they wanted to keep things a secret. They were even telling the media in March that they were in no rush to start wedding planning and didn’t have a date in mind. But just a couple of months later, in May, Ed Sheeran spilled the beans that they had already sent out save-the-dates.
It makes sense that the wedding is closing in; they’ve already had their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Benny had a wild weekend in Las Vegas, where he partied with Lil Dicky in a $25k-a-night villa, and Selena had her own dreamy bachelorette in Cabo with her closest friends.
Leading up to the wedding, the couple slipped away for a more mellow lakeside trip over Labor Day with family and friends, sharing boat rides, cozy dock photos, and quiet moments before the big day.
According to insiders, Benny has made it clear that this is “her wedding first, and their wedding second.” Meaning, Gomez is running the show, and he’s happily along for the ride. While she’s reportedly pushed him to step up with a few decisions, everything is now “paid for and figured out,” and it’s smooth sailing from here.
Aside from the date and locations, other things we know for sure are that Blanco wants pickles at their wedding. As for Gomez, she wants biscuits and gravy and for her Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short to give a speech. “I told him he must… I feel like Marty would have an epic speech,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show.
