Selena Gomez is opening up about her hopes for the future and the kind of family life she dreams of building with husband Benny Blanco. During a recent podcast appearance, the singer and beauty mogul shared that she has always imagined having a large, lively household filled with loved ones.
The Rare Beauty founder appeared on the second episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, released Tuesday, March 3. The show is hosted by her husband, music producer Benny Blanco, alongside rapper Lil Dicky, whose real name is Dave Burd, and his wife, Kristin Batalucco. The conversation quickly turned personal when the group began discussing how many children they hope to have.
Selena Gomez Says She Would Love Four Kids
When Blanco asked Burd and Batalucco about their family plans, the couple shared different expectations. “One, two max,” Burd said. Batalucco had a slightly bigger vision, replying, “like three.”
Gomez then jumped in with a bigger dream of her own. “I want four, but that’s out there,” she said. The singer, who married Blanco in September 2025 in Santa Barbara, California, explained that her idea of a big family has been shaped by a memorable movie moment that has stayed with her for years.
A Scene From The Family Stone Inspired Her Family Dream
Gomez revealed that a scene from the 2005 holiday film “The Family Stone” continues to influence how she imagines her future family life. The movie centers on the complex dynamics of a close-knit family gathering during the holidays as they meet their son’s girlfriend for the first time. The film stars Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, and Claire Danes.
Gomez shared that the matriarch portrayed by Keaton reminded her of someone very special in her own life. The character “reminded her of her Nana,” Gomez explained during the conversation. When Blanco asked Burd if he had seen the film, the rapper admitted he had not. Gomez and Blanco then described the movie as both heartfelt and emotional.
They called it “sweet” and “touching,” while Gomez added that it is “also sad.”
The Dinner Table Moment She Can’t Forget
While describing the film to Burd, Gomez focused on one scene that she says she has never been able to shake. She said the moment captures exactly what she hopes her future family gatherings will look like. “One day at my dinner table, when I’m her age, I want to see that dinner table,” Gomez said.
She explained that her dream is not necessarily tied to a specific number of children but rather to the sense of connection and community that comes from a big extended family.
“Whatever happens, happens. If we’re only able to have one, none. I hope… we don’t know,” she continued. “But my dream for sure was that scene where they’re all at the dinner table, and they’re just with their partners or their significant others or kids or single, and it’s just this beautiful cast of characters.”
Batalucco summed up the idea simply, responding, “It’s the community of family.”
Gomez then added a dose of humor to the conversation. “So, it’s actually going to be crazy hell until they become adults,” she joked.
Benny Blanco Previously Shared His Dream of Becoming a Dad
The podcast conversation reflects something Blanco has spoken about publicly before. Months before the couple tied the knot, the producer shared that he deeply hopes to become a father in the future.
In a June 2025 interview with InStyle, Blanco said he already enjoys spending time with kids in his life and would love to take on the role of dad himself. “I love kids; I love being an uncle,” he said at the time. “I want to be a dad, though, God willing. I’m just dreaming and praying every day.”
