Steven Tyler‘s daughters, Liv and Mia, are close friends. But the pair share a strange origin story, revealing that they first met when they were 8 and 9 years old, backstage at an Aerosmith concert.
Liv and Mia shared the “bizarre” story of how they met at the Kate and Oliver Hudson podcast “Sibling Revelry.” Liv is the daughter of Bebe Buell and Steven Tyler, even though she thought for years that her father was the musician Todd Rungren, who signed her birth certificate.
Mia is the daughter of Tyler and Cyrinda Fox, and was born the following year. “Liv was first, but we didn’t know,” said Mia. “Yeah, I was the bastard,” said Liv in agreement.
“Love child,” sang Mia in the background.
The sisters revealed that their first encounter took place at an Aerosmith concert, and was prompted by a woman who saw the two playing backstage together and asked them if they were siblings.
Mia and Liv met while playing backstage
“I remember there were no kids backstage, so we played hard that night,” explained Mia. “And we were at this VIP area, outside of the green rooms and we were just like, you know, doing our 8 and 9-year-old thing, and this fan lady came up and she was like, ‘Oh my god, you girls are so cute. Are you guys sisters?’”
“I was literally like looking in the mirror seeing double,” said Liv, calling out their notable similarities. After seeing Mia, Liv confronted her mother, who explained the whole story in a “beautiful” way.
“I looked at my mom and I was like ‘Mom?’ And she just started crying. My mom just like, bawled. And I was like, ‘Is Steven my dad?'” The girls were then introduced to each other backstage for the first time, with the two sending each other postcards afterwards, beginning their friendship and relationship.
