Patti Hansen’s family helped the iconic supermodel ring in her 70th birthday on Tuesday with touching tributes in celebration of the major milestone.
Patti’s husband of 42 years, Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards, took to Instagram to share several throwback photos of the happy couple throughout the years. “Happy birthday, Patricia. Yours forever!! All my love, Keith,” the 82-year-old wrote in the caption.
Patti and Keith’s daughter, Alexandra, also shared a sweet message for her mom on Tuesday, and wrote in the caption: “Happy Happy 70th Birthday to our lucky charm today! We love you so much, can’t wait to celebrate you!” She accompanied this with a video compilation of Patti’s Vogue covers, as well as snaps and clips of her with family.
“Hot in every decade,” Keith commented on Alexandra’s post. The couple first met in 1979 at Studio 54, when she was 23, and he was approaching his 36th birthday. They tied the knot in 1983 and went on to welcome their daughters, Theodora, 40, and Alexandra, 39.
Despite living in the spotlight, Keith and Patti’s marriage is one of the strongest in the entertainment industry – although they are not without their trials.
“Any marriage, Rolling Stone or not, there’s definitely going to be some rocky mountains there,” she told Vogue. “We have had our trials; that’s for sure. But on the whole, it’s great. We both have the same morals and background. We both come from working-class families. I think we are very similar in many ways.”
Patti, who enjoyed an illustrious modelling career before pivoting into film and landing roles alongside stars like Audrey Hepburn and Rick Springfield, also beat cancer in the mid-’00s and is feeling better than ever. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and bladder cancer in 2007, yet responded to the chemotherapy.
“The chemo is really horrible,” she told Vogue. “I don’t know how people get through it. I have friends who are on that wicked stuff for life. It’s so debilitating, so depressing. The first shot just totally ruined my arm.”
“You have to go get yourself plugged in every week, and you sit there, and you think, ‘My God, I take such good care of myself. I’m so organic. I can’t believe I’m putting this poison in me.’ But it shrank the tumor.”
Patti is incredibly careful about her health now and is learning how to take care of her skin from her two daughters.
“After years of being in this business, you’re so aware of every little thing, every line, every mole. I try to keep a healthy focus,” she said in an interview with Ivan Shaw. “Every morning I look in the mirror and say, ‘Oh, you could lift up here.'”
“At 60, I finally decided to take really good care of myself,” she continued. “I’ve done Fraxel [laser treatments] for all the sun damage. My daughters are in their 30s, and they do facials and have all the creams. I never did any of that. Now I do. Now I’m learning from them.”
