Salma Hayek is giving fans a rare look inside her relationship with her daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault. The Oscar-nominated actress, 59, stars alongside her 18-year-old daughter in the latest episode of Instagram’s Carversations, released on Aug. 4. The heartwarming episode follows the mother-daughter duo on a shopping trip through Barcelona, where they talk candidly about fashion, creativity, and how their relationship has evolved over the years.

Valentina, whom Hayek shares with husband François-Henri Pinault, CEO and chairman of Kering, has largely stayed out of the spotlight. That makes the appearance especially meaningful for fans eager to see the pair together.

Salma Hayek Praises Daughter Valentina’s Creative Style

One of the sweetest moments in the episode comes when Hayek reveals that her daughter has become one of her biggest fashion inspirations. As they browse clothing racks together, Hayek opens up about watching Valentina develop her own sense of style from a young age.

“I love finding things through you. Even when you were on Instagram and you were younger, the feed would give you age-appropriate

for you to create your own style and taste cause you’re so artistic…so it’s been lovely to see you grow, change and investigate and rediscover yourself through the years,” Hayek says.

After pulling a garment from the rack, the actress asks her daughter for an honest opinion. Valentina doesn’t hold back. “Absolutely not,” she replies. “That’s always going to be a no. It has pockets, mom.”

Laughing off the rejection, Hayek simply responds, “I tried.”

Although Valentina rarely joins her famous mother at public events, the two have made several memorable appearances together over the years.

One of their most talked-about outings came at the 2023 Academy Awards, where they coordinated glamorous red-carpet looks. Hayek dazzled in a shimmering Gucci gown, while Valentina wore the same strapless Isaac Mizrahi dress her mother famously wore to the 1997 Oscars, creating a full-circle fashion moment.

They also attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and the TIME100 Gala in 2023 before stepping out together again this summer at the Serpentine Summer Party in London.

For the June event, Hayek wore a flowing gray-blue dress while Valentina opted for a modern gray halter top paired with a matching skirt, once again showcasing her sophisticated personal style.

Valentina Isn’t Afraid to Give Her Mom Honest Feedback

Fashion isn’t the only subject on which Valentina shares candid opinions. Hayek has previously revealed that her daughter is also one of her toughest movie critics.

While promoting Marvel’s Eternals during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2021, Hayek admitted she was nervous about showing the film to her daughter. “I gotta tell you, she’s very tough. I was terrified to take her,” Hayek said.

Recalling Valentina’s blunt movie reviews, she added, “She’s seen movies where she goes, ‘My God, that was awful. Mom, what were you thinking?’ So I was so scared.” The actress ultimately appreciated her daughter’s honesty, even if it came with some nerves before every screening.
