For the first time in Bachelor Nation’s history, the upcoming season was canceled just three days before it was set to air on March 22 amid an ongoing police investigation involving its lead, Taylor Frankie Paul. Despite the cancellation, the social media account still has all of its promotional videos up, with one that was released on Thursday, the day the news broke.
With comments turned on, the latest video has become a place for longtime viewers of the show to share their opinions, and it’s surprisingly divided. While the most liked comment reads, “As a long-time Bachelor Nation fan, I’m sitting this one out. You guys need to do better at vetting your leads,” it’s followed by the second most liked, “I still want to see it, don’t cancel the season,” with a crying famous emoji.
The rest of the comments range from “Well, this didn’t age well,” to “Respectfully, I still want to watch this season…” “I was going to watch for the first time in forever. “She needs help, and I don’t condone her behavior, but I would like ABC to know I am still willing to watch the season for all of us. You may send a DVD to my apartment, and I will let you know my thoughts: “This train wreck is still airing?” and “For the first time, I’m sitting this one out. Do better, Bachelor Nation.”
The Instagram account has not shared an official statement on its main grid, but there is a community note added by an Instagram user on the video about its cancellation.
The decision came hours after TMZ resurfaced a 2023 video that shows Paul in a physical altercation with her ex, Dakota Mortensen, while a child was present. It showed her pushing and kicking him, and throwing stools at him. Their child can be heard crying, and the police report says the 5-year-old was hit and sustained an injury to her head. She pleaded guilty at the time and is still on probation until August. Meaning, she was cast for the show… while on probation.
Updates since its cancellation
Since it was announced that the show had been cancelled, it was reported by TMZ that Mortensen’s request for a temporary protective order had been granted. According to the court docs, she must stay 100 feet away from him, including his home, and he will have temporary custody of their 2-year-old until they’re back in court on April 7.
Who won the season?
Of course, not just Taylor is missing out on precious screen time, but so are all the men who signed up for the reality show hoping to find love, fame, or both. There have been whispers that the winner is a man named Doug Mason.
Mason shared a video to his story saying, “In light of everything that’s happened, I’m just sending out prayers to Taylor, ’cause that was her moment and her moment was blocked.” “All we can do right now is just be hopeful,” he said as he asked viewers to “stay positive” and “show nothing but support for people in need.”
Paul reacted in the comments section of a blogger’s post. “Aw, my heart goes out to him,” she wrote. “So sweet.”
People have been leaving comments on Paul’s posts since the video. One user wrote, “I’m sorry her moment was not ‘blocked’. Accountability is part of adulthood and she is finding that out. DV should never been acceptable, man or woman as the aggressor.” Another questioned what’s next behind the scenes: “Soooo, when does that NDA expire? We have questions…”
While another criticized his response to the situation, writing, “This guy defending her and he’s trying to get into music, he better rethink his stance. He’s pissy because he won’t be featured on this show.”
