The Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr has revealed that, in a callback to his recent victory on the beloved BBC competition series, he has splashed out some of his own money on a castle in the Scottish borders that is very similar to the iconic Ardross castle, where the show is filmed.
In a new interview with The Sun in February 2026, he revealed that she spent £3.25 million to buy Ayton Castle, often viewed as one of the country’s finest baronial-style homes, in the Scottish Borders near Berwick-upon-Tweed, after recently sharing that he was searching for a ‘very grand’ castle.
The castle features 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of gardens and parkland and its very own miniature railway – however, Alan has his own plans to transform the property into a luxury hotel and spa, which he is filming for Disney+.
Though details have not been released yet, it is believed that the show will be similar to his BBC renovation projects in Italy, Spain and Greece with Amanda Holden.
He told the publication: “Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home.
“As I turn 50, I feel it’s time,” the comedian continued. “All I want is a turret to call my own — get me over that drawbridge.”
According to the publication, he used his own money to buy the castle, in a risky move that could pay off for him if the show winds up being successful. It also reported that Alan and Amanda spend every New Year together in Edinburgh, and would likely have seen the castle on the way in and out of the city during their journey.
Alan Carr’s emotional Traitors finale
When Alan revealed to fellow contestants Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga that he was the traitor among them in the finale of Celebrity Traitors, the 49-year-old immediately broke into tears, sobbing and apologising for the “deceit” and “lying”.
After his victory, he shared the reasoning behind his emotional response with host Ed Gamble, during a live recording of the video podcast Traitors Uncloaked. He shared how his role on the show had “taken its toll”, saying: “I think all the deceit, the lying, the murdering of Paloma and Celia had all taken its toll and then I think it dawned on me that I had won such a huge amount for my charity, Neuroblastoma UK.
“The charity is so close to my heart that it all became a bit too much. Hopefully when people see how upset I was they won’t feel so bad that I killed all those national treasures,” he continued.
