The Waleses are moving! The Prince and Princess of Wales are leaving Adelaide Cottage and reportedly moving to Forest Lodge in Windsor. Kensington Palace confirmed in a statement that Prince William, Catherine and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are moving to a new home. “The Wales family will move house later this year,” the statement (via HOLA! A source close to the Waleses told The Sun, “Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times.”

“Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind,” the source added. “This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home.”

During the family’s time at Adelaide Cottage, Queen Elizabeth passed away in 2022 and in 2024, King Charles was diagnosed with a form of cancer and the Princess of Wales underwent chemotherapy treatment, which she completed last summer.

Prince William, Catherine and their children moved from London’s Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022, prior to the death of Queen Elizabeth. Ahead of the royals’ move back then, The Telegraph reported, “The couple hope the move will allow them to give their children the best and most ‘normal’ childhood possible. It will also ensure stability if they relocate next door to Windsor Castle at any point in the future,” adding that it would additionally enable William and Catherine to enroll “their children at a co-educational Berkshire prep school set in extensive grounds and boasting impressive on-site sports facilities. It will ensure a much shorter daily commute for the couple, who like to do the school run themselves whenever they can, and allow them to throw themselves into all aspects of school life.”

In September of 2022, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis all began attending Lambrook School in Berkshire.

The Sun reported on Aug. 15 that it understands the family’s move to Adelaide Cottage “three years ago was partly designed to test life in Windsor and see if it worked for them as a family. They have since settled in the Berkshire town with the children said to be happy together at Lambrook School a few miles away,” with insiders telling the outlet that “the Windsor location allows Wills and Kate to be ‘as hands on as possible’ as parents while balancing Royal Family commitments.”

According to The Sun, the Waleses are paying for the move and rent at no extra cost to the taxpayer, and are also funding the renovations themselves and will have no live-in staff at eight-bedroom Forest Lodge.
