Princess Anne received a special birthday wish from her nephew Prince William and his wife the Princess of Wales. The royal couple marked the Princess Royal’s 75th birthday on Friday, Aug. 15, with a message on their social media accounts.
“Wishing Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal a very Happy 75th Birthday!” the message read. The Prince and Princess of Wales’ birthday wish for Prince William’s paternal aunt accompanied the picture of Anne that was released by Buckingham Palace on Thursday. The image was taken by John Swannell last month at Anne’s private residence at Gatcombe Park.
Another photo of King Charles’ sister, captured by John Swannell, was shared on Friday on the royal family’s official social media accounts with the caption: “75 today! Thank you for all of your kind birthday wishes for The Princess this week.”
Anne, who is currently 18th in line to the throne, is the second child and only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. She was given the title of The Princess Royal by her mother in June of 1987, making her officially the seventh Princess Royal in the British monarchy.
The King’s sister is often dubbed the hardest working member of the royal family. Earlier this year, the Princess Royal revealed whether she plans to retire. “I don’t think there’s a retirement programme on this particular life,” she told the Press Association (via the BBC). “It really isn’t written in, no. It isn’t really an option, no, I don’t think so.”
Anne was previously married to Captain Mark Phillips, whom she shares daughter Zara Tindall and son Peter Phillips with. The Princess wed her second husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, in 1992.
Anne’s 47-year-old son Peter, who is the eldest of Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren, recently announced his engagement to Harriet Sperling. The couple shared their engagement news with HOLA! USA‘s sister brand HELLO! earlier this month. “Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement,” a statement issued for the couple by Gerard Franklin read. “Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.”
