Actress Geena Davis shot to stardom in the 1980s and 90s with starring roles in Beetlejuice and Thelma and Louise – and over three decades later, the 70-year-old still knows how to work a red carpet.

The Oscar-winner proved she hasn’t aged a day as she stepped out at the Los Angeles special screening of The Wrong Girls on Wednesday, donning a neon orange mini dress, adorned with a floral pattern. She paired the look with a fish-shaped clutch and a pair of hoop earrings.

Geena, who stars opposite Kristen Stewart, Alia Shawkat and Seth Rogen in the upcoming comedy film, was the image of radiance with a glowing complexion, wearing her hair in loose waves and topping off the look with pink lipgloss.

The Wrong Girls, which premieres on 14 August, follows two codependent best friends “living paycheck to paycheck and bong rip to bong rip get caught in a case of mistaken identity that throws their lives into chaos,” according to the official synopsis.

Geena’s thoughts on ageing

Geena’s latest red carpet appearance follows her candid comments about ageing.

“I think it’s fabulous,” she told Yahoo in May. “I’ve liked myself better every year. I even think I look better every year! I don’t know if that will switch at some point. Maybe not. But it’s fun. You don’t worry about age anymore.”

Despite this, she has previously shared her experiences of ageism in Hollywood.

“It’s very strange and so prevalent,” she told Allison Kugel on the Allison Interviews podcast in 2022.

“A certain male actor that was making a movie said that I was too old to be his romantic interest, and I was 20 years younger than him,” she revealed, keeping specific details about the actor and the film under wraps.

“Women peak in their 20s and 30s, and men peak in their 40s and 50s as far as actors go,” she continued. “So the male stars of the movies want to appear to be younger than they are, or they want to appeal to younger people, so they always want a co-star who is really young.

“That is why that happens and that is why women don’t get cast very much after 40 and 50. It is because they are felt to be too old to be a romantic interest.”

Geena’s Hollywood career

The Massachusetts-born actress landed her big break in the 1982 comedy Tootsie, starring alongside Jessica Lange and Dustin Hoffman.

From there, she landed a string of hits, including 1986’s The Fly, the cult classic 1988 film Beetlejuice and the 1988 comedy The Accidental Tourist, for which she won an Oscar.

She followed up her Oscar win with 1991’s Thelma & Louise with Susan Sarandon, and 1992’s A League of Their Own with Tom Hanks and Madonna.
