During a segment of Today 3rd Hour, Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin and Laura Jarrett spoke about a growing trend among Gen Zers to consciously take a break from their phones.
In the videos shared during a Today segment, teens called the act “raw dogging boredom,” and did so to deal with social media fatigue.
Craig was a fan of the trend and wisely shared a quote by author Arthur C. Brooks, whom he interviewed and recalled: “Boredom really lends itself to creativity.”
The TV star added: “A lot of the best ideas come from sitting and doing nothing and then it’s like, ‘oh, that would be a great idea.'”
Dylan added: “They say you’re not supposed to take your phone to the bathroom with you.”
Craig immediately displayed his shock at the thought and interjected: “Who’s doing that? Are you taking your phone to the bathroom?”
Dylan’s confession
Dylan continued: “I assume people sit there with their phone,” as she started laughing. While secretly hoping that what he heard wasn’t true, he said: “You don’t take your phone to the bathroom.”
Dylan defended herself by saying: “I put it on the counter,” while laughing. Laura also came to her defense and said: “It’s okay. This is a safe space,” as Craig curiously inquired: “Why are you taking your phone to the bathroom?”
Laura yelled: “She’s bored,” as Craig hastily replied: “You can’t go a few minutes on the toilet without your phone?” Laura responded: “She has three boys, okay Craig? She’s just trying to escape. She’s trying to have a minute to herself.”
Dylan finally confessed after the back and forth: “I just have a minute to scroll for a second.” Craig was still in disbelief at what he learned about his long-time co-worker, that he had to confirm once again.
He said: “So you take your phone to the bathroom to escape from your children and you doom scroll on the toilet?” Dylan shared: “Well, it’s my only chance.” Laura continued: “Just give her a minute,” as everyone continued laughing.
Dylan swiftly said “okay well,” as she attempted to gracefully steer into the following segment. The TV star noted that an interview with Steven Zahn was coming up after the commercial break, as Craig emphasized: “He’s judging you right now.”
Dylan admitted: “I’m so embarrassed I said that.” Laura consoled the TV host and said: “You’re just filling out your [time] bracket okay,” as the show went into break.
Dylan’s family life
Dylan is a busy mother-of-three, therefore, we can’t blame her for trying to find some quick alone time for herself to decompress.
She shares her children Calvin Bradley Fichera, nine, Oliver George Fichera, six, and Russell James Fichera, four, with her former husband of 12 years, Brian Fichera.
The journalist filed for divorce on March 10, announcing their months-long separation last July.
In the post she also revealed that the duo actually split up a few months before she made the news public.
In the post she expressed: “We began as friends, and we will remain the closest of friends. Most importantly, we will continue to co-parent our three wonderful boys together with nothing but love and respect for one another.”
Dylan’s take on love in the future
Dylan exclusively shared with HELLO! during the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Lake Nona, Florida: “I would say I’m open to it,” she said, adding: “I don’t know how to do it… it’s been a longtime and my focus is on the kids and the family. So if something were to happen organically and it’s easy, you know… but I’m not searching for it. If something happens, I’m open to it.”
