It is an exciting, and emotional, long-awaited day for Sheinelle Jones.
On Monday, March 23, the TODAY anchor announced the forthcoming release of her debut book, Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom From Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans.
The concept of the book, a collection of stories and lessons from the mothers of the likes of Lady Gaga, Stephen Curry, the Williams sisters, Matthew McConaughey and more, was first crafted in 2020, but ultimately delayed after the new author’s husband Uche Ojeh’s fatal cancer battle.
Kicking off the March 23 episode of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, Jenna Bush Hager declared: “Today is a huge day, we are so excited for you,” as the hosts noted that the book has been “in the works for six years.”
“I started this book thinking that it would be a simple guide to maybe what some of these women did right, what they did wrong … and it certainly is, for sure, but it turned out to be so much more,” Sheinelle shared.
“I think these women empowered me in ways that I didn’t know I needed,” she added. “I’m hoping that when women read it, whether you’re an auntie, a grandmother, a mom, a teacher, a coach, if you work with children, I think you’ll be touched by some of the wisdom that they shared.”
The co-anchors then discussed how the book, the idea of which Sheinelle first conceived during the pandemic, was meant to be released last spring, however Uche had been diagnosed with glioblastoma.
“He was determined that I keep writing it,” Sheinelle revealed of her late husband, who passed in May 2025 aged 45, noting that he “didn’t even want me to hold off at all.”
She however pushed for it to be delayed, that is until her grandmother Josephine Vonceal Pace Brown, who passed away in December 2025 and who was not only a core influence for the book but also meant to be part of its book tour, passed away.
“It’s essentially a love letter to motherhood. I wrote this when my life was frankly falling apart, and motherhood doesn’t stop, that’s what I’ve learned. If anything the volume goes up when life gets hard,” she continued.
Sheinelle, a mom to son Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13, added: “There were times when I felt alone and the pages of this book made me less alone.”
