Tom Hanks is already a grandfather of three, but he now has an adorable granddog added to the mix. Over the holidays, his son Chet Hanks was trying to find the owner of a dog he found running close to the street in Marina del Rey. The dog had a harness and leash, but no tags, and he later discovered it had been stolen six months prior. Thankfully, the story has a happy ending.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, he shared details of how he ended up keeping the dog. “I found her by the side of the road; she was going to get hit by a car if someone didn’t step in,” he explained.
With no collar in sight, Chet brought her to a vet and had her scanned for a microchip, leading him straight to the dog’s original owner. He called the woman whose number popped up and said, “I found your dog.”
© @chethanxHe said she was “really emotional” and revealed, “That dog was stolen from me.” Chet offered to reunite them, but the woman, who no longer lives in California, told him the dog would be better off staying with him. “So I’m like, I’ll give the dog a happy home,” he said.
She also revealed that the dog’s name is Queen. “And yeah, we’re in love. We’re in love,” he gushed.
As for whether Queen has met the rest of her famous family, she has. When asked if he’d introduced her to his parents, Chet confirmed she’s met “everybody.” “She’s the sweetest dog,” he added. “Everybody loves her.”
Queen first appeared on Chet’s Instagram on December 27, when he posted a video right after he rescued her, asking for help identifying her owner. “If anyone knows whose dog this is, please reach out to me,” he wrote. “No name tag or nothing found in Marina del Rey 10 pm Dec 27th. Dog is in good hands if no one finds the owners, I will give her a good home.”
Days later, he followed up with a more definitive update, writing, “To whoever stole this dog from her original owner, you ain’t getting her back, she’s mine now with the owner’s blessing, thanks to all who reposted and commented.”
Chet later shared a video explaining the full timeline, including learning that the dog had been stolen six months earlier. “I guess me and Queen are gonna stick together now,” he said.
