Tommy Lee Jones’ daughter’s cause of death has been revealed more than a month after the 34-year-old was found dead in a San Francisco hotel hallway on New Year’s Day.
Victoria Jones, who previously worked as an actress, was attended to by paramedics just before 3 a.m. on January 1, with the medical professionals describing the incident as a “code three for the overdose, color change,” during a 911 call, as per TMZ.
The San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner released further information about Victoria’s untimely death on Tuesday, revealing that she had died from the “toxic effects of cocaine”. They also ruled her death an accidental overdose.
Victoria is the daughter of Tommy and his former wife, Kimberlea Cloughley, with the couple also welcoming a son, Austin, during their marriage.
The late actress endured several setbacks in recent years, with her father petitioning a California court for temporary conservatorship over his daughter in August 2023. At the time, Victoria was being held in a psychiatric facility. The Men in Black star filed to end the conservatorship in December of that year.
According to People, she was arrested twice in 2025 – firstly in April for being under the influence of and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, and secondly in June for misdemeanor domestic battery. She pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Victoria is survived by Tommy, Kimberlea and Austin, all of whom shared an emotional statement in the wake of her passing. “We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you,” it read.
Victoria’s first onscreen role was in 2002’s Men in Black II alongside her father, before she appeared in One Tree Hill in 2003 and 2005’s The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, the latter of which was directed by her father.
“She’s a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish,” Tommy told The New Yorker in 2006. “When she was a baby, I told Leticia, her nurse, to speak to her in Spanish.”
Tommy added that he had been forced to fire her during the filming of The Three Burials due to her sleeping habits. “She had to get up at 5 a.m. for her part. One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed. I said, ‘Honey, this is work.’ But she wouldn’t budge,” he recalled.
“So I fired her. Then, without telling me, the production staff went over and woke her and rushed her out to the set just in time.” Victoria often accompanied her father to red carpet events over the years, and was last seen by his side in December 2017 at the Just Getting Started premiere in Los Angeles alongside her stepmother, Dawn Laurel-Jones.
Tommy and Dawn have been married since 2001, and she worked as a stills photographer on The Three Burials.
