Trinity Rodman knew what she wanted. The Washington Spirit forward is dating Ben Shelton, one of the most exciting tennis players in the country. The two have been dating over the past two years, becoming one of the most notorious couples in the world of sports.
In a podcast appearance, Rodman revealed her romance with Shelton began because she made the first step. “Everything I do is just embarrassing. I’m really embarrassed,” Rodman said on Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie” podcast.
Rodman revealed she sent Shelton a DM and was invested in their relationship before they first met. “I fully committed to this guy that I didn’t even meet yet, for him to stay at my house for the weekend,” she said. “It’s actually crazy, it’s insane, but it worked out.”
Rodman also reflected on the WAG label, which refers to the wives and partners of professional athletes. It’s a term that’s incredibly popular, yet one that some people still criticize.
© Getty Images for YouTube“For me, I think I like the term personally because, like I said before, I feel like 24/7 I’m on in front of cameras … and so I think I use the term WAG for me to simplify what I’m doing,” Rodman said.
“For me, saying WAG, it’s me being like, ‘I’m Ben’s girlfriend.’ But I can understand why [the term] is so hated,” she continued.
Rodman revealed that she loved the fact that they’re both athletes and that they understand each other so intimately. “It’s the best feeling in the world, honestly. I think to know we’re both on the grind, running our bodies to the ground, always exhausted, doing what we love, and then to also be able to be a little like a WAG in a sense, it feels so good for us,” she said.

“Being in a couple in the public eye is not for the weak,” she said. Rodman shared that it’s difficult dealing with people’s expectations when they see a dynamic from the outside yet still form strong opinions.
Still, she’s learned the best way to deal with it. “Mind ya business,” she said.
