The BBC has unveiled a first look at the new drama, The Split-Up, starring Unforgotten‘s Sanjeev Bhaskar.
The upcoming series is a spin-off of The Split, Abi Morgan’s hugely popular drama starring Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan.
The new drama, created by Ursula Rani Sarma, is set within the fast-paced world of Manchester’s high-net-worth divorce circuit and centres around the Kishan Law family, who own a powerhouse British-South Asian family firm.
As a huge fan of The Split, I’m counting down the days until the new series lands on BBC One. Not only is the show penned by Ursula Rani Sarma, whose credits include hit crime dramas Smother and Bodkin, but original creator Abi Morgan is on board as an executive producer. Plus, the cast list really is something to behold.

What to expect from The Split-Up
Set in Manchester, the series follows the Kishan Law family firm, which is the go-to for the city’s elite.
At its centre is Aria Kishan, a fast-rising star of the firm, who is poised to take over from her father, Dhruv, and her siblings, Maya, Kav and partner Neal.
But the death of Aria’s mother casts a new light over succession plans for Dhruv, who has begun to wonder if his daughter can, or should, take on this responsibility single handedly.
The synopsis continues: “Aria’s relationship is placed under scrutiny too with the wedding to long-term partner Neal on the horizon, but with their personal and professional lives so entwined it’s unclear if their relationship can withstand any more pressure – a problem further compounded when a former secret flame (Dimitri Leonidas) arrives in Manchester unexpectedly.
“Alongside her siblings Maya and Kav, whose own relationships and loyalties are far from straightforward, Aria must navigate the splits that divide family and those we love – and ask herself: who should you live your life for?”
Who stars in The Split-Up?
Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy) leads the cast as Aria Kishan, alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten) as Dhruv, Aysha Kala (Virdee) as Maya, Arian Nik (Film Club) as Kav and Danny Ashok (Dinosaur) as Neal.
Other cast members include Dimitri Leonidas (Those About To Die), Mawaan Rizwan (Juice), Sindhu Vee (Matilda the Musical), Shalini Peiris (The White Lotus) and Tom Forbes (Queenie), while Lenny Henry (Three Little Birds), Jane Horrocks (Bloods) and Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) guest star.
When will the series air on BBC One?
The BBC has yet to announce a release date for the six-part series. However, with filming having wrapped in January, we’d expect the show to premiere in mid 2026. But stay tuned and we’ll keep you across the latest updates!
