Eric Dane was remembered by his beloved cast and crew of Grey’s Anatomy on February 26 when a 60-second montage of the late actor aired at the end of the show.
Viewers were left emotional when the ABC medical drama paid homage to Eric, who died at age 54 from ALS.
It featured memorable moments from his seven seasons on the show as Dr. Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan, and the memories were intensified by the song chosen to accompany it.
Chasing Cars
The soundtrack is a cover of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,” by Tommee Profitt and Fleurie, which featured on Grey’s during the heartbreaking finale of season two.
It was also used to celebrate the 400th episode of the popular series. The show’s Instagram shared the video and wrote: “In loving memory of Eric Dane,” and fans commented with crying face emojis and messages.
“Chasing Cars being the song just broke me even more,” wrote one, while another added: “I’M CRYING we all miss him,” and hoards more mirrored the emotional statements.
Eric’s ALS diagnosis
The actor, remembered as a loving husband and father, had been living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a diagnosis he publicly announced in April last year. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” Eric’s representatives told HELLO! in a statement.
“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered, always.”
