Wendy Williams’ team pushes to end guardianship after shocking new test results contradict dementia claims

Wendy Williams’ fight for freedom may be closer to a turning point. After more than three years under a court-ordered guardianship, a new medical evaluation has reportedly found that the 61-year-old talk show icon does not have frontotemporal dementia – the diagnosis that’s kept her legally confined since 2022.

According to TMZ, Williams recently underwent a full round of neurological testing in New York City, and the specialist who reviewed her results concluded she does not show signs of the degenerative condition. The findings directly contradict what her court-appointed guardian previously claimed – that Wendy had tested positive for the disease. 

Frontotemporal dementia, as experts note, doesn’t improve over time, yet those close to Wendy say she’s shown “remarkable neurological resilience” since getting sober three years ago.

The new medical results are now in the hands of her legal team, who reportedly plan to file paperwork within the next two weeks requesting that the guardianship be terminated. If the judge refuses, powerhouse attorney Joe Tacopina is ready to demand a jury trial and ask jurors to do it.

Still, the former daytime star remains under strict supervision. Earlier this fall, Wendy made a surprise appearance at New York Fashion Week, her first major public outing in months. “I feel like a zillion dollars!” she told TMZ at the time. But behind the glam, she’s still locked in a legal battle that’s far from over.

In September, a judge ordered Wendy to sit for a deposition in a lawsuit her guardian filed against A&E over her Lifetime documentary. Despite her diagnosis, the court ruled she’s competent enough to testify – remotely, for up to three hours per day – with breaks for her health. The decision raised new questions about her condition, especially after reports surfaced that she had aced a mental capacity test earlier this year, scoring a perfect 10/10.

At one point, the host was reportedly confined to a memory care unit and only permitted to leave with approval. But now, with her health reportedly stable and her legal team moving aggressively to end her guardianship, it seems Wendy might finally be stepping toward the independence she’s been fighting for.

For now, she’s savoring the small moments of freedom. After her appearance at New York Fashion Week, Wendy attended lawyer Tacopina’s son Chris’s wedding to Emma White. With this glimmer of hope, it could be the first of many outings in her future.
